Amazingly enough, I gotta go with Kain 100% on this one. It had a few brief moments of greatness sprinkled throughout, but for the most part was a disappointingly unenthusiastic, by-the-numbers actioner; a definite step back from DoFP, which in itself was desperately snapping at the heals of First Class.
Ivan Ooze, err... I mean Apocalypse, was a limp joke of a villain, (on par with Ultron and the elf guy from Thor2). Jennifer whatsherface staying out of blue makeup for 90% came across like a spoiled little moviestar brat tactic. ("I'll do this last film but I ain't putting on that stupid makeup anymore. My fans want to see the real me!" "Just a few quick scenes, Jennifer? Pretty please?" "Oh, okay. I suppose! But only a couple!!") *Ugh* Just getting sick of her. Giving Magneto a family and then snuffing them out a couple of scenes later just to get him 'back in the game' was the cheapest of cheap plot manipulation tricks. ("Gee, how do we believably make Eric a 'bad guy' again?" "Ummm, we could give him a family ...and then kill them?" "Perfect!") *SIGH* Storm, Psylocke & Archangel were essentially wasted in thankless throwaway roles that kept them too far in the background. Nightcrawler was one of the few bright spots.
Like I said, there was some good stuff, but it was very UNDERwhelming movie for me.
