All those 50's Big Bug movies (Them!, The Beginning of the End, etc) have the makings of a great shared universe.

Back when WB did their first significant press release about their Godzilla Kong shared universe, I guess last year, even though the release was primarily touting the sequel to Godzilla (2014) the way it was worded had me wondering then if WB had plans to bring in others of their giant movie monsters.

It makes alot of sense for WB to do so. They already own the monsters so using them should be comparatively easy. And chances are anyone who's a fan of Godzilla & Kong will at least be aware of these other monsters, while non-fans get to enjoy them as another monster fight (and maybe learn about them).

And when you get down to brass tacks, I just plain really like the idea of WB not only making this shared Godzilla-Kong movie universe and bringing all their other giant creatures along for the ride.

I was checking in with Jordan Vogt-Roberts twitter semi-regularly to check for updates on the movie, but it seems he's left twitter, probably because of the harassment he's received since he live-tweeted an encounter with a neo-nazi guy sitting next to him on a plane.

This is probably reason reason 1,468,567,892,978 to hate nazis, but I just thought everyone should add it to their lists.

^Same, though PacRim had so many monsters and robots that I wish the book had been twice as big. If the Kong book is of similar quality it's a must-have.

Clips from Kong were shown at the BNAT film festival and the response has been very positive:

Kong: Skull Island has been rated PG-13 for "intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action, and for brief strong language." I guess this means the theatrical cut is finished. March is going to rock!

You haven't seen the Kong: Skull Island trailer until you've seen it in the original Japanese!

I like how it combines elements of both trailers, btw.

This is a TV spot. It's completetly different from what we've seen so far and I love it.

^MONSTERVERSE!

I suppose I've been tentatively calling it the 'Legendary Kaijuverse,' but since PacRim has laid claim to 'kaiju' this makes sense.

These four TV spots I've found are numbered 2 through 5:

I can't seem to find TV spot #1.

This movie looks like a blast. I love the fact that Kong fights a giant octopus again. They really seem to be going all-out with the monsters of Skull Island.

I think subtle references to Godzilla's existence in the film would be fine but I really don't like how they've put Goodman's line about the 1954 nuking right here in the TV spots. Connective tissue is fine for setting up future movies but come on, don't allude to would-be future offerings in the pre-release marketing for the current title. Did WB learn nothing from how Sony marketed The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (or rather, how they marketed Sinister Six)? Plus, it's bound to have one of two unintended side effects, either making viewers think the 1954 nuking was an attempt to kill Kong, or making them think Godzilla will appear in this movie.

I've seen the ads a few times on TV today.

Still a month and a half away.

--- edit ---

... and I'm just now seeing ads for The Great Wall, which comes out less than a month away. I guess they have a bit less confidence in that one?

Empire coverage of Kong: Skull Island reveals some neat BTS stories of the actors and at least one really neat detail:
