Halloween 4 - Great atmosphere, a decent story, and it is quite hilarious to try to see how many times Loomis' scar changes. Oh yeah, and that ending. I give it an 8/10.

This is what I've watched for Halloween so far

The Shallows- Great shark movie, better than I thought it was going to be though I didn't care for the ending. Other than that it was great.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans- Not as good as the other Underworld films. I really enjoyed the werewolf effects they're really good.

Resident Evil- This is ok, it doesn't hold up that well though. Some decent practical effect but horrible CGI.

Underworld- It's kind of hard watching this one. Plus I don't really care for the werewolf designs. Other entries had better werewolf designs.

Resident Evil: Apocalypse- Ew not as good as I remember.

Home sick watching Godzilla movies today.

I used to love Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster, but now I merely like it. I feel like it's a warm-up for the superior Son of Godzilla. Still, enjoyable through and through, with a likable cast. Man, both the Mothra and Godzilla props are a bit worse for wear in this one. It's amazing that they actually kept the Godzilla suits intact enough to do three or four movies with them in the '70s, 'cause this is just the second film this Godzilla suit was used in at it looks ragged in certain scenes. I don't know if it was the cold medication or what, but I really loved watching Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack this time. I can be hard on this one sometimes because of the highs Kaneko reached with his Gamera films and Toho's meddling in this movie's production, but taken on it's own its highly enjoyable with a lot of great moments.

Watched The Return of Godzilla, the first time I've seen it with the 'International' English language dub. It's pretty flat, but serviceable and nicely Australian. Followed that film up with its direct sequel: Godzilla vs. Boillante! Always enjoy watching this, my favorite post-Showa Godzilla film made by Toho... so far (ahhhh!!! Toho's making Godzilla movies again and it's exciting!).

^After watching Return, I am definitely thinking of watching Biollante again before I see Shin.

Last night I watched the 1948 adaptation of The Three Musketeers, starring Gene Kelly as D'Artagnan and Vincent Price as Richeliu, among other notable actors. This is a boisterous, fun adventure which turns into an epic drama, with heaps of humor and a few well-placed portions of tragedy, filmed amidst lavish sets and gorgeous locations. There's no end of entertainment to be found in this film, though I'd have to analyze it closer to review any character arcs or story themes. Maybe I'm watching the wrong movies, but I don't think studios make them like this anymore. A-.

How To Train Your Dragon 2 was on tonight, so I watched it again. I had reservations watching it the first time, but I think I can say with confidence now that it stands equal to the first. B+.

Frankenstein - From a nostalgia standpoint, this movie is utterly fantastic. Without that though, it's good, but not great. Karloff is amazing as the creature, it has a lot of great lighting that brings a sense of mood to the film. That aside though, the story is kind of lacking as there's barely any reason to care about any of the characters. The creature is barely even on screen to really feel a sense of sympathy for him. As an adaptation, it is dreadful becasue it doesn't even feel like it is even trying to be faithful to the source material. Also, I've never understood why they switched Henry and Victor's names around. The lack of a score due to the time period doesn't help matters either. Nevertheless, it's short run time, fast pacing, and superb acting and atmosphere are what truly makes this film delightful to sit through. I give it an 8/10.

Watched Godzilla vs. Hedorah last night. Wanted to watch two more 'zilla flicks tonight, but my obsessive following of today's "political" news has been quite the time suck. I think there's still enough time in the day to get one in...

The Bride of Frankenstein - The first sequel ever made is an intriguing one, but if you are going to make a sequel that takes place directly after the events of the first one, maybe you should make sure you get all of your cast members back. Suddenly the Burgermaster was skinny, had a mustache, and was young, the dude whose daughter drowned aged like 20 years and had a cane, and Elizabeth suddenly had long black hair instead of short blonde hair. Oh yeah, and the creature seemed to put on a little weight. Shouldn't the windmill have burned his calories? :-p Seriously though, this movie is just as good as the first one, but not better. This one make the monster more sympathetic, but it drops the dark and serious tones of the original to go for something more light hearted and comedic. As such, they often don't feel like they are part of the same story. Thankfully, the writing is top notch and touching at times that you can easily forgive it for that. I also give this one an 8/10.

Dale and Tucker vs Evil - The hell did I just watch? That was so god damn stupid, and yet, it was an intelligent stupid. I was not expecting what I got, which made it quite enjoyable as it was original. I can't say it was the greatest thing ever and I really don't see the need for a sequel, but it was a fun, dumb movie. I give it a 7/10.

A Christmas Horror Story - AKA Krampus of War as Krampus reminded me of Kratos. Seriously though, this movie was a lot better than Krampus, but still not great by any means. The story about the family with the son was decent while the one with the family of 4 sucked. Then there was one that dealt with 3 kids that started out good but fell apart in the end. The highlight tale was the one that dealt with Santa and a zombie outbreak in his workshop. That one was pretty awesome and the twist was completely unexpected, but made total sense. William Shatner's role was pretty good for what it was. I liked it, but I couldn't really care less if I were to ever see it again as it was a good 15 minutes too long. Regardless, it was entertaining, so I give it a 7/10.

Halloween 5 - No where near as good as its predecessors, but Pleseance and Harris hold this movie on their own accords to make it enjoyable. Plus, there is some interesting cinematography. Unfortunately, the film overstays its welcome by about 10 minutes and features some pointless plotlines that serve no purpose as if the writers just wanted something to make the movie seem edgy. Tina is an annoying twat that is way too perky and silly. The Myers mask is ugly and I don't like how his house is now a castle. I give it a 6/10.

Watched the always enjoyable US version of Godzilla 2000 last night, and I hope to squeeze in as many Godzilla movies today as possible.

BTW - man did the digital effects and compositing in G2K age terribly! I guess terrible digital effects weren't too uncommon at the time, even in big Hollywood films, so that sort of inoculated us back then, but these might be the effects in the Godzilla series that have aged the least gracefully.

Halloween 6 - Good god, this movie has the stick so far up its own ass that everyone is treating this material seriously. WTF? The plot of this movie is not only way too convoluted for its own good, but why has no one ever put up an issue about the fact that Michael raped his own niece when she was 14? NO ONE!! It makes me want to throw up. This movie is just utter crap, but at least the pacing of the Producer's Cut is so much better and gives us the true final performance of Pleasance unlike that garbage theatrical cut that removed the majority of his scenes as he is the only thing that saves this movie from complete dog "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!". I give this film a 4/10. Of course, if I were watching the theatrical cut, I would give it a 1/10.

Scream - This was the first slasher movie my parents allowed me to watch when it first hit VHS and it still remains a great one. It just misses my top favorites list due to there being so many other great ones, but that doesn't mean this isn't a fantastic movie either. I love all of the references to the horror movies that came before it and the break down of all of the tropes. It also helps that the characters are all fun and likable, so I give this movie an 8/10.

Undereworld Evolution: Probably the better of the sequels and had the best effects of IMO of the series.

Resident Evil Extinction: Better than the second but not as good as the first or last films.

The Wolf Man (43): My all time favorite werewolf movie. I watched this on BD finally. I got the BD last year but had just watched the wolf man a day or two before getting it. The BD print is good has some issues but that's to be expected since the movie is almost 75 years old.

RE: Afterlife: Better than the third which isn't saying a lot

Underworld Awakening: I've only watched this when it first came out and I didn't really care for it. The giant werewolf was cool but other than that meh

RE: Retribution: Again haven't watched this since it came out and oddly enough I didn't remember a thing about it until I started watching it. Probably the best of the RE sequels again that's not saying much.

Martyrs, both the remake and the original.
I think if you could put the ambiguity of the ending of the original Martyrs into the American remake, you'd have my preferred version of the movie, more or less. Maybe it's because I watched the remake first, and so I knew the twists and turns when I watched the original, but I thought the way the first forty-five minutes or so played out in the American version was a lot better done.
But: the American remake kinda botches the ending, by nudging us too close to an answer.
Granted, the over-ambiguity of the original is a bit of a problem as well, since it's left SO WIDE OPEN that almost literally any interpretation fits and yet none of them completely work, thus robbing it of feeling like the director himself even had any idea of how to end it properly, but I'll take that, and fill it with my own head canon, over the American version, which is a little too precise and too happy.

Last night I watched Mothra vs. Godzilla, Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster, and Monster Zero! I just finished the first half of Godzilla '54 before work, and hopefully will have enough time to watch the rest of it before seeing Shin Godzilla at 7:30 tonight!

I watched all of the Halloween films recently (I had only seen Curse and RZ's Halloween previously)
Wow, that series goes down the crapper fast, but It's kind of fascinating to watch. The lady and I haven't decided if we're gonna go through Friday the 13th this year or wait (I've only seen Freddy vs. Jason).

As far as a ranking -
1. Halloween (original)
2. Halloween II (original)
3. Halloween (remake)
4. H20
5. Halloween III: Season of the Witch
6. Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers
7. Halloween 5
8. Halloween II (remake)
9. Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers
10. Halloween Resurrection

I don't think I'm ever gonna re-watch anything except the first two though.

I saw a little movie called Shin Godzilla. I dunno, a giant monster that lays waste to cities and shoots radioactive beams? It's pretty far fetched.

Watched the original Friday the 13th. Wow, how awful. :/ Gonna watch a few of these long enough to see Jason get his mask and quit I guess.

Also watched Prince of Darkness which is a Quatermass movie XD. I feel as thought the first half is greater than the second. It's similar to the Fog in that regard. I just don't think enough goes on to live up to its promise. Still enjoyed it.
