In both dubs of Destroy All Monsters, Ogasawara Island is refered to as "Monster Land". IMO, "Monster Island" is better sounding, is it called this in the Japanese version? I think it's also called "Monster Land" in Godzilla vs. Megalon.
In Godzilla vs. Gigan, Son of Godzilla (well.. "island of monsters"), and Godzilla's Revenge.. it's called "Monster Island".
Can we assume that there are two islands? Soheil (I don't know how to spell it) Island and Ogasawara Island? Since Destroy All Monsters takes place in 1999.. maybe there was a "Monster Island" before "Monster Island"?
Here is my theory:
"Monster Island":
Son of Godzilla
Godzilla, Minya, Aspiga (Kumonga) and the Gimantis's (Kamakiras). It is quite possible that "Sohheil" Island is a 3rd Island in this theory, and Godzilla and Minya left it after the snow melted.
Godzilla's Revenge (even though it doesn't take place in reality, Cheerio's fantasy's have to come from somewhere)
Godzilla vs. Gigan - It is my theory that most of the monsters had collected on one such "Monster Island", as it is refered to in the movie. Godzilla and Anguirus have "escaped", but there is no elaborate barriers as later established in Destroy All Monsters. I'm guessing here was only a "early warning" system in place.. where if one of the monsters (in this case Godzilla and Anguirus) escaped, they would know ahead of time.
Godzilla, Anguirus, Minya, Aspiga, Gorosaurus, Mothra, and Rodan all appeared to have taken up residence on the island.
Godzilla vs. Megalon - Some of the monsters might have left the island, as we see in the beginning of the movie, because of atomic tests. This could explain why Anguirus is on a different island in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla. Godzilla stayed on the island (when Jet Jaguar comes to get him). Perhaps we can assume that the other monsters staying there went elsewhere, or went in to hibernation.
Monster Land:
Destroy All Monsters - All of the monsters have been collected to Ogasawara Island (it is possible that many of the monsters had already 'by chance' taken up home there). Another idea is that maybe "Monster Island" wasn't that far from Ogasawara Island, and the base and barriers were constructed, then the monsters were "coaxed" over to the new island.
Godzilla, Minya, Anguirus, Rodan, Mothra, Manda, Gorosaurus, Baragon, Aspiga, and Varan.
