Sounds like it should be a fun movie, hope we get to see more about it soon. I wonder if this will be/is a co-production between Legendary and the big movie studio in Hong Kong?

In some ways, Legendary Pictures reminds me of a modern day Cannon Films. Legendary is willing to take a chance making movies that we don't necessarily see from the big guys, just with much better budgets than Cannon Films ever had.

Anyone else think that this sounds very similar to "Attack On Titan"?

Yeah, going from the synopsis, there are just enough similarities to raise an eyebrow. On the other hand, it's supposed to be set in 15th-century China, and I'm presuming that the titular wall is the Great Wall of China. I'm thinking less Attack on Titan and more "" with kaiju instead of Wildlings. (There's probably a better comparison, but it's the best I have right now.) It may not be so much the defence of a city as of a country or continent, too.

Shouldn't this thread be movedto the Asian giant monster section?:

The first images are appearing online from filming and this one seems to give us a sneak peek at what the creatures may be:

The actor accepted, turned down, then accepted the lead once more in one of China's most expensive productions ever.

Meh. I was cautiously hopeful I would be interested in this, but this didn't help. I'm not surprised, or complaining, but it looks way too Chinese for my tastes (as in, appealing too much to the modern Chinese popular audience). And Matt Damon looks WAY out of place.

This is the first movie made under Legendary's Chinese branch, so it actually IS placating the Chinese crowd over the US crowd. Damon is just there to help sell internationally, I think.

Still, it looks like it could be fun.

Yeah I know it technically IS a Chinese movie (hence why I'm not surprised or particularly disappointed). I was just hoping it might look and feel like something other than a typical modern Chinese fantasy epic, cause I usually just don't care for those.

I like Chinese fantasy epics but I was hoping to see a little monster action. Color me intrigued.

I like what little we really see, but I want to see more; more of the monsters (I hope they're more than just big lizards), more of the fights (what style will they take?), etc.

im expecting this to be an eastern "dragons" movie - which would make more sense culturally than a generic giant monster flick

As I think on the trailer again, I find myself not as wowed/interested as I had hoped. When first watching the trailer, it did seem to me that much of what we saw could have been the Chinese cinema version of Battle of the Hornburg, aka the Battle of Helm's Deep. Overall the trailer, outside some clear views of the Great Wall, doesn't seem like a distinctive Chinese film (which disappointed me a bit) -- I'm sure part of that is because the trailer was cut in effort to appeal to the broader Western audiences, and hopefully the distinctive aspects will be more prevalent later. I was also hoping for action scenes that reflected those in martial arts & wuxia movies -- but we didn't really see any action in the trailer (again hopefully such scenes will be showcased later).

I guess right now, if someone from Legendary knocked on my door and told me I could see either The Great Wall or Kong: Skull Island today but I had to decide in the next minute, I think Kong would be the easy choice.

I wouldn't say it's WHITE WASHED. Asian actors are featured prominently in the trailer. There just also happens to be a white guy. This isn't Gods of Egypt.
