This one was fun, but also a very silly Star Trek film. Thankfully it fully embraces the silliness rather than taking itself all seriously and coming off as utterly ridiculous.

But that said, I'm still mulling over whether I actually liked it or not. It was entertaining and I had fun watching it but I also don't know if I have a desire to watch it again. It's a weird feeling cause most movies I walk out of with a pretty good grasp of how I felt about it. This one I just don't know. For example, The Force Awakens was another hard one for me to pin down after the first viewing, but I walked out at least knowing that I DEFINITELY wanted to see it again.

Anyway. There were some things I really liked. And some things I really didn't. And some things that just made me go WTF? They kept advertising how it was directed by some Fast and Furious guy and that definitely shows. This thing is NONSTOP action. Like, honestly TOO MUCH action, especially for Star Trek. It didn't feel like the audience, or the cast, got to breath. They did try to squeeze in some quieter character moments. But they felt like exactly that. Squeezed or shoehorned in.

I dunno.

I really liked it. It's a lot of fun. Just as fast paced and energetic as the first two with a fantastic cast. It has a much more focused story compared to Into Darkness and in a way is the kind of sequel I imagine people anticipated to begin with.

With Yelchin's untimely passing I wouldn't mind if Alice Eve returned to take his place onboard the Enterprise. It seemed like she was set to join the ensemble at the end of the previous film anyway but is curiously absent here.

I loved it. This is now me proceeding to ignore Into Darkness and rewatching the fantastic duology of Star Trek and Star Trek Beyond. I hope the next installment is so fun.

I enjoyed it. Top 5 Trek films, but the villain felt like they muddled whatever his message was by ultimately making him what he was.

The Sabotage sequence was great fun. Jayla was awesome. I also loved seeing more aliens interacting with the crew.

I dug both the 2009 movie and Into Darkness, and I dug this a lot too. The Enterprise's destruction was stupid, if only because seeing it go down for the upteenth time in a film has lost its luster, but I admit it led to a fun situation the characters find themselves in. Karl Urban nearly steals the show this go around. It's probably the most satisfying he's been in these movies.

And even though Krall is undoubtedly the weak link in the movie,

Not as solid as the film that kicked off the reboot, but miles better than Into Darkness. i'll echo Mekagoji3k's sentiment about Krall's character being muddied on account of him being whatever he is.. Also they totally took a bad page from Marvel's playbook with

ok..so just for fun I went back and watched the pilot episode of Enterprise. Now in this shows 3/4 year run, I probably watched a total of less than 10 episodes, I wasn't really into it. But it intrigues me more now since it is the only series not effected by the "Kelvinverse" split. In Beyond, they state The Franklin NX-326 was the first ship to reach Warp 4. But at the end of the pilot episode of Enterprise NX-01,goes to warp 4 (and earlier they were talking about going warp 4.5 as a test...but the situation with the Suliban delayed that test) . So...was the Franklin before the Enterprise, or is this just a continuity error?

Next Generation elements should remain absent in these movies. I hope the next one has more of an Original Series feeling. A throwaway line in Beyond hints at cosmic energy beings in fact. Let's get weirder offbeat stuff like that!

They already said they were bringing back Hemsworth as Kirk's father... and since they already did time travel... and this is JJ Abrams... i think its a safe bet that we're getting the Mirror universe in the next film.

I had never heard of the Olivia de Havilland law before. I'm glad he came back as he was easily one of the strongest points in the film. I hope he doesn't regret missing out on whatever project he stepped away.

^I've had de Havilland on the mind recently: she was TCM's star of the month last month, which coincided with her 100th birthday!

I liked this movie a lot. The cast really shined, and while some bits felt a little underdeveloped the knowledge that they scrapped the entire first version of the third film because they felt they (Pegg, Wan, and Co.) could do better with very limited time is quite impressive.

... and that Rihanna song from the end credits is really good! I've been listening to it every once and while since I've seen the film. Apparently it was co-written by Sia, and it certainly sounds it.
