The Twilight Time releases of Mysterious Island and First Men on the Moon are in the low quantity range. If you want to pick them up, now would be a good time.

There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

I had a huge crush on Raquel Welch because of that film as a middle schooler.

Details are still sketchy, but looks like a release of Big Guy & Rusty the Boy Robot is finally happening:

With SDCC fast approaching I'm hoping Discotek/Eastern Star makes some more cool anime release announcements as they have been doing an amazing job of releasing pervious titles long OOP from various other distributors. I'd love to get a good DVD Release of Dangaioh (not the butchered one from manga ent...), Also Great Dangaioh. I never watched because I heard that most of the Viz Media DVD's had serious playability defects.

Universal is apparently releasing a Blu-Ray box set of the Hammer films they have the rights to! That includes two of my favorites: Brides of Dracula and Curse of the Werewolf!

--- edit ---

The fact that they're doing a Hammer Horror set I think bodes really well for Universal's other cult titles: namely the monster sequels and their prolific lineup of '50s sci-fi titles.

Holy moly! More Hammer on Blu-Ray here in the US! Mill Creek will release two double features on Sept. 6:

- The Two-Faces of Dr. Jekyll/The Gorgon
- The Revenge of Frankenstein/The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb

Halloween comes early this September!

Only halfway through, but this year has been the best ever for movies on Blu-Ray. I wonder what all the labels have in store for the holidays?

... hold on to your butts: apparently Universal will begin releasing their Legacy Collections on Blu-Ray this September with the Frankenstein and Wolf Man sets.

It seems they'll have the same lineup as the current DVD versions, in which every movie with that character (and associated films, like Werewolf of London) is included in the set. Expect a bit of duplication between the Frankenstein, Dracula, and Wolf Man collections.

^I got my Universal Monster megaset on sale for like $50, so I don't feel too cheated. Amazon listing is up for both new sets. $39.99 retail, so I imagine they'll typically be discounted to $30 or so.

September has gotten expensive: The Return of Godzilla, two Universal Monsters sets, a Hammer Horror set, two Hammer Horror double features, and Buckaroo Banzai on Blu!

--- edit ---

- and Lewton's Cat People from Criterion!

--- second edit ---

- and The Iron Giant and special edition rereleases of Carpenter's The Thing and the classic western High Noon!

^ Frankenstein, Dracula, The Invisible Man, The Mummy, The Creature From the Black Lagoon, and The Wolf Man. Each set contains all associated classic films for that character, from sequels to crossovers to Abbott and Costello.

^ OK. Big question... are all of the special features ported over from the original DVD Legacy sets? And... any new material generated solely for the Blu-ray sets?

^Aside from a Van Helsing teaser ir two? Everything ported over.

The discs for the initial films should be the same as the ones from a few years ago. I believe they had a new feature about the extensive restoration... maybe?

Criterion announces their October titles. Pan's Labyrinth is there, and so is a box set of Cronos, Devil's Backbone, and Pan's Labyrinth.

I'll get all of these Legacy Collection sets as they're released, but it's the Frankenstein set that I most anticipate because Son of Frankenstein is such a favorite.

^With the price point of these sets I don't think waiting for a single disc release (which may never happen) for a couple of the films will make much difference price-wise.
