Here's the point I was trying to make: I haven't seen any commercials on TV (even that Parco spot I've only seen online), I haven't seen any posters in the trains, and I haven't seen any billboards on the streets. I can quite easily get through a whole day - and my commute through one side of Tokyo to the other - without seeing anything about this movie. It may seem like a lot of marketing is going on when photos from some events and displays are posted all together on a forum, but IMHO that doesn't really reflect the actual day-to-day visibility of the movie.
I AM A HERO, another Toho franchise film that came out in April, had multiple commercials running months in advance. I'd never even heard of the manga before, but I can say from my own experience that I was well aware of the movie before it was released (even down to details like the ZQN virus) mostly due to the hot-pink posters plastered throughout the trains.
Not saying Toho can't or won't kick up the marketing campaign for SHIN GODZILLA, but with 22 days left think they are leaving it quite late.
Apparently I live under a rock though, so what would I know!
