Godzilla Resurgence (2016)

Okay I know what the second kaiju is it's the end of Godzilla's tail it's an alien chestburster maybe we'll see Super X 4 fighting Godzilla alla Godzilla 1985. Still hoping for a second kaijy besides the tail

Just thinking aloud, but Shin Goji's hips aren't from fat, but bone. He has wide, child baring hips. This Godzilla is destined to give birth to Shin Minilla.

Of course, we'll have to see it in action to make an actual judgement, but my at this moment my opinion on the design mixed but tending towards positive:

- The shape looks terrible from the front but great from the side and back.
- The arms are too small, but the feet are really cool.
- The dorsal plates are really terrific.
- The eyes are wonky, but I like the teeth and the inside of the mouth.
- The tail is so wild I haven't made up my mind about it.
- Not sure how I feel about the skin texture being comprised of all these folds of flesh, but I like the glowing red shining out from the cracks and creases.

... oh, and no ears! With this and Legendary excising the ears I hope we've seen the last of them for a long time.

So transparently a rumor that there is a translation of the kanji that alludes to Godzilla possibly being alluded to as a nature god or being viewed as such. Maybe that's something.

^Something about the particular spelling of "Shin" on that new flier they're handing out?

We knew in the beginning that Shin had multiple meanings: New/True/God Godzilla. Who can say if it's metaphorical, literal, or something in between?

At this point, I've griped enough about the design. I also just want to actually see Godzilla in action because, until we do, it's really hard to weigh on all the weird choices made with the design and how it will look on screen. At the end of the day, the execution of the design is really what matters.

It's interesting that they're using a heisei-style suit for promotional purposes. I wonder if a suit actor would even be able to drag that enormous shingoji tail around; no doubt it would look silly just dragging on the ground.

The shape of the nose and brow ridge in that pic remind me very much of the Cybot from '84...

Walking around Tokyo (Ginza area) and haven't found much in the way of Godzilla, let alone Godzilla Resurgence. One toy store had a small section of Godzilla stuff, mostly older (still trying to unload the G'14 stuff and the Japanese Bandai Creation figs, and Gyaos Revoltech, haha). I bought rice crackers made to look like Godzilla's skin.
One book store had a display of Godzilla DVDs, and they had the Resurgence trailer on a loop next to them.
Maybe it's just the area I'm in, or maybe we're not close enough to the release yet.

So, apparently there'll be a Shin Chan vs. Shin Godzilla episode airing a week before the movie premiers.
