I must just be seeing a different design, because I'm completely okay with that. I don't think it looks any more derpy than the thunder thighs look of the 90s.

I find it kind of amusing that the surfers running away from Godzilla are still holding their surf boards. I don't know, if a giant 300+ foot monster was coming towards me I would toss whatever I'm holding and run for my life LOL!

But anyway, the scene sure looks beautiful, but I am really not into this new design at all. I don't hate it, but I don't like it. Maybe it will grow on me when I see it in action...

This has the same issues as all Godzilla designs. Great from some angles, goofy from others.
The only thing I'm concerned about is inconsistencies with the quality of CGI - and the size. One of the greatest accomplishments of G14 was that while he was huge, it never felt comical. They managed to give the hugeness a weight that made it believable for the most part. This has the potentially to be so unbelievable and implausible - that it comes off goofy rather than scary.

All that being said, I still have watched the trailer 40-50 times and I want more.

^ I think he's referring to one of the pictures in the SFJ article. I think the tank shots all look great in the trailer, but the one high res image is pretty shaky.

I know people were complaining about "thunder thighs" but after starring at the image long enough I realized his legs actually aren't that big. You can see where his leg ends and his tail section begins. His hips/tail base are humongous. I might be pointing out the obvious and added nothing to the conversation.

Here is the section I am talking about where I highlighted the edge of his meaty leg.

The design does not bother me so much as his size. I always believe that the smaller Godzilla is, the more interesting monster he will be.

But guys, I have to keep reiterating that the narrative, the plot, is MUCH more important to this film than Godzilla's design. Just because one does not agree on the look of Big G, does not automatically mean that this movie is going to be a wash. Son of Godzilla people! Son of Godzilla! Terrible suit, but pretty good movie!

The story will obviously explain Godzilla's look. Only afterwards, can one like or dislike how everything was approached.

I think Godzilla looks good. What's the big deal? It's a gnarly take on Godzilla with a toothy maw and glowing-red blood or exposed muscles all over his body. I'd be concerned about the thick thighs if they were bringing Godzilla to life through suitmation but they're using CGI so there's no reason his thighs should hinder his movement like they did in the later Heisei films. Between the large legs and the smaller, more Tyrannosaur-like arms, this Godzilla seems designed to be seen from low-angle shots like this, emphasizing his immense size from a human POV. The CGI does look pretty darn good and I'm impressed that they're making no bones about showing it off in broad daylight.
