I meant for news in general. Like ANYTHING about the movie. Not Shin-Gojira desert menus or red kiryu's. At least we have some busts and toys but god damn the suspense is killing me.

Still yeah like you guys say news on this thing is pretty sparce, even searching the japanese twitter it's mostly fan images etc. Still it's not a long wait until release so I'll be patient

Well, I was worried for a moment because Toho didn't nip this whole NWC in the bud, but they may have been just too low profile to get on their radar. I'd say our chances of seeing this film legally in the US in some fashion before the end of the year has increased dramatically, whether it's a limited theatrical run our VOD or some such. I suppose a home video release we'll come a bit after the one in Japan, as has been the case in the past.

I can definitely see the small artsy/niche theater chains picking it up for at least a week run. Hell a both the AoT films were picked up by a theater here in Columbus so I can always be optimistic.

Well I'm relieved. So if NWC isn't going to be distributing, any guesses on who will be? Is it typical for there not be a distributor at this point or does that come after release and critical reception? Wouldn't surprise me if companies here are in a "wait and see" kind of mode. I know I would be.

It's Toho. They'll rush this out to meet the release date like they always have, especially with the huge amount of merchandising and cross license tie ins they have going his time around. If it ever stood a chance of being pushed back, were far too close to the release date for it to happen at this point.
Toho have always favored money, marketing, merchandise and commerce over the final product and it doesn't seem like that's changed, even with the studio changing hands.

So here we have a movie going over budget, undergoing reshoots and complete SFX overhauls that hasn't given us a new trailer because it "isn't finished" and reporters saying the producers are clearly nervous during their interviews. So now we have he film makers scrambling to get the pieces together the best they can.

Sounds great. :/

... but seriously: is this in any way a surprise? Many Hollywood films are worked on all the way to wire, and I just assumed that with the insane production schedules of Japanese films and the ambitious nature of this project that they'd be busting their butts until zero hour.

I would do a back flip if this movie got delayed. Of course Toho doesn't give a crap and if they have a broken movie on their hands they will release it anyways.

*edit* It doesn't surprise me that the movie isn't finished but the underlying message I am getting from the movie is Higuchi and Anno bit off more than they could chew. Since they have gone the CG route this movie is a one way street. Any CG effect that isn't finished will stick out like a sore thumb and any practical effects of Godzilla they could use for the movie will also stick out.

Again I am hoping the staff pulls off a miracle.

It's nothing new that movies have rushed production schedules and wrap up and the eleventh hour. However, Higuchi actually said that under normal circumstances, they'd have something to show at this point in production from the film and he didn't. The fact that he acknowledged that and that we've heard so many things about outright spfx failures is troubling. We've literally seen nothing from this movie except a "found footage" trailer and a very hamstrung second trailer that honestly was underwhelming. We've had no production stills. No TV spots with new footage. This seems pretty off for a Godzilla movie, unless they really are having issues with it. I'm hoping for the best and expecting the worst at this point.
