I've pretty much resigned myself to every time I see an article saying PR2 isn't happening, GDT will fire back within 24 hours saying, yes it will, someday...maybe... This has happened at least 4 times in the last 6 months. I want PR2 as bad as anyone, but until it is an absolutely 100% sure thing, or not. I wish websites would just let it go. What's the use of beating this dead horse, and having Dr. GDT "frankenstien" bringing it back again, all to the frustration of fans.
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

With , we might see Pacific Rim 2: Revenge of Crimson Typhoon and China will most assuredly play a roll in Godzilla 2 and Godzilla vs King Kong.

That would be pretty gnarly if they revived PR2. Hopefully they pick a different location than Hong Kong for a battle. Like the great wall or something I dunno.

GDT just tweeted that we should expect upcoming 'good news' on PacRim2!

Sounds like good news to me, I haven't seen Daredevil yet (no Netflix) though obviously word of mouth has been good about the show (never seen any of the Spartacus series). As Steven S. DeKnight was picked by Guillermo Del Toro, I assume that DeKnight was vetted as someone in tune with the ideas of super robots battling giant monsters so that PR2 will have a director who can truly expand on the world introduced with the first movie.

There was an animated (mini ?) series talked about last year, but I don't believe there's been much of anything about it in the last few months. If I remember correctly the animated series was going to follow a group of Rangers in training. I don't recall any specific time period discussed so the series could even take place before the PR, and I believe the series was not going to be a direct sequel of PR.

Disappointed that GDT won't be returning, but Daredevil was amazing so I'll give DeKnight the benefit of the doubt. Then again, DD was about 180 degrees from Pac Rim in terms of content, but like Shadow said I'll assume that GDT knows what he's doing in picking him.

Unfortunately, none of this means anything unless the film gets placed back on the release schedule. Writers and directors get attached to projects that aren't in active development all the time. Without a release slot, PR2 is still trapped in another dimension with no portal home.

Well I must say that I'm glad that Pacific Rim 2 has found life again, but why the heck is GDT not directing?? What the heck happened? Is he busy on other projects? It's a shame because it was his style and imagination that made Pacific Rim so special. :(

It's not his fault that 90% of the time when he goes into a meeting with a freshly completed script in hand and expecting a greenlight he's told: "Yeah, we're not making this. Get out of this building."

Wasn't del Toro in talks with Fox about directing the Fantastic Voyage remake? Couldn't that be why he isn't directing PR2?

As for our new director, I think it's silly a lot of people everywhere are already writing him off. The guy has barely done anything directing-wise outside of directing a few TV episodes, let's give him a chance.

Personally, I have no problem with someone else other than GDT directing PR2. I'm sure the new director, whoever he is since I never heard of him, will probably do a fine job. In my mind the more kaiju movies the better. BUT...I just think it's a pitty because PR was such a special movie because of GDT. It was his movie, he made it because of his love for Godzilla and the kaiju genre. I also agree that the man puts to much stuff on his plate, most of which never sees the light of day. I have no idea what the real reason is for him not directing PR2, but if it's because he wants to concentrate on other projects, then I am truly disappointed.

However...and this just pure speculation on my part, what if..WHAT IF...he backed out on PR2 because he was offered the directors chair for Godzilla Vs Kong?? :D Now that would be totally awesome and a dream come true!

It's kind of astonishing so many people haven't heard of DeKnight.
He was the showrunner for Daredevil, which was pretty popular. He's worked on a LOT of TV, a LOT of it good (at least by reputation. Daredevil is the only thing I've seen), in the kind of role a director of a blockbuster film would be.

My concern is whether or not he can "ape" another director. To clarify, I think JJ Abrams would actually be a great director for PacRim 2, because he has no real style of his own and is just good at copying the feel of another director. A JJ Abrams PacRim 2 would feel a LOT like a GDT PacRim movie. Can DeKnight make his movie feel like another director? I don't know. Then again, maybe that will be a good thing, because PacRim 2 might be a bit dull if it just feels like a redo.

On DeKnight's twitter he elaborates that he grew up with Ultraman, Jonny Sokko, and Space Giants and GDT is his "long lost soul brother."

... so he's saying all the right things.

Keep that soulless hack JJ Abrams away from PR. I like this new director. Daredevil was awesome.
