I shouldn't have tried reading that while I'm tired and still getting used to my new glasses. It just made my head hurt.

^I'm sure they will. Numbered sequel titles are generally out of fashion.

Hoping for the title "King of the Monsters", myself. Especially if King Ghidorah is involved. Would allow the title to have a "who is REALLY the king" type of vibe.

You know what's funny about that.... Some of the local theaters (that still don't have digital marquees) instead of spelling out: TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS , will just put "TMNT2", yeah , we know what they are talking about 8) . But seriously, some movie titles are getting as long and wordy as titles of Japanese shows.
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

Although, now that I think of it- Godzilla films, like James Bond films, have never really been numerated (except for the US versions 1985 & 2000 that are linked to a specific year). But most hardcore fans know the order. In fact David Kalat's commentary on the GTTHM dvd, he starts of with something like.... "Welcome to Godzilla 5" .... and in my mind I had to go through the films for a moment to confirm...yeah that's right...

The reason I suspect numbered films are out of style is $.
Imagine if the Dark Night had been called Batman 2. They'd be worried people who missed batman begins would skip it. Despite it being one of her favorite films and going to see Rises with her years ago, I recently discovered my gf did not know the existence of batman begins. I dusted the cobwebs off the old blu Ray and we watched it last week.

I could be wrong but I think they hope newcomers won't be intimidated by the numbers of what they have to catch up on.

Does anyone really think the Transformers franchise has that much weight to throw around? The last one I actually turned off ten minutes before the end, and I'm a lifelong fan.

Godzilla 2 is definitely going to need a new release date and August 2018 is currently wide open. August used to be a proverbial dumping ground in terms of action/FX-driven movies without much expected blockbuster potential, but Disney/Marvel and Paramount changed that in 2014 with the one-two punch of Guardians of the Galaxy and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Now we've got Suicide Squad and Disney's new live-action/CGI take on Pete's Dragon opening this August.

We're living in such a saturated era of visual effects-heavy movies that it's no longer far-fetched for breakout blockbusters to open in any month of the year. Think The Lego Movie and Deadpool in February, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Furious 7 in April, Gravity and The Martian in October, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens setting a new domestic opening record in the middle of December.

Godzilla 2 can absolutely loom large in August 2018 and I wouldn't be surprised if Warner Bros. puts it at the beginning of that month just as they are for Suicide Squad (where Disney opened Guardians of the Galaxy). Right now they've got Aquaman set to open the week before on July 27, 2018 but I can see them opening that earlier on July 13. Fox still has "Untitled Fox/Marvel" set to open on that date and that project was likely intended to be their eventual X-Men / Fantastic Four crossover before the 2015 reboot tanked and they scrapped their plans for a 2017 sequel. Unless Fox now decides to stick Deadpool 2 in that July 13, 2018 slot, I can see WB putting Aquaman there and having Godzilla 2 kick off August.

If I were a betting man, I'd put my money on ‎Michael Bay.
He's beaten Godzilla twice.

Yeah, the Transformer movies are complete "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!", but people keep eating them up. Sadly, we have to admit Godzilla probably doesn't have that kind of pull.
