I was kind of hoping this would be it's own thing and not another sequel but that premise does sound interesting. At least compared to the other sequels to Gojira.

Regarding Higuchi not being able to take criticism. That comment he made bashing the critic who slammed his movie was a private facebook post made public. He did apologize for saying it and was disappointed in his "friend" for releasing it. I'm sure any director takes a shot back at a film critic, he just made the mistake of posting it to his "private" social media account.

To be fair, Higuchi isn't a good director, but a lot of the problems with AoT were not just him. The author/illustrator of the AoT manga insisted on these changes and wanted to make something different. I don't think Higuchi has EVER had to deal with negative criticism like that before. Japanese fan bases can be rabid and brutal to deal with. So it's only fitting Hideki Anno is directing this movie.

I was googling reactions from the teaser and poster from a few weeks ago, and I suppose I underestimated just how many people were convinced of this movie being a found footage thing after that teaser trailer! Can't wait for the next trailer in a few months to show them it isn't some kind of Japanese take on Cloverfield.

... and speaking of 'waiting': all the talk about how Godzilla's overall design looks gnarled and damaged is making me downright impatient to see this thing!

Wait... could this supposedly mangled, damaged appearance be an attempt to kinda redo the whole 'Burning Godzilla' concept? The image is iconic, the movie has a certain iconic stature (though I find it seriously lacking). From what I've seen, Higuchi's work on the Colossal Titan was really great. Maybe Godzilla will have a similar burning, smoke streaming out, appearance? It would be fun if it essentially reversed the case of Godzilla vs. Destroyah, with Godzilla slowly healing instead of dying.

I keep reading how divisive the design is going to be, be unless the movie is really bad, I don't see that happening. If things go right it could stand on its own in an 84/Burning/GMK sort of way.

If Godzilla is bleeding everwhere I wonder if that'll be a plot point, like an ever expanding toxic spill. I wonder if Godzilla's state will provide him with a concrete motivation: absorbing more radiation to reconstitute his body.

If true I don't even mind that much. I'm up for a scarred Godzilla. Legion says he saw it, though I'm not sure if I believe him. There's a pic with the supposed eye but it looks fake.

I trust legion. He's been apart of the Monster Zero community for years and wouldn't have any reason to lie. I do believe some of those pictures are accurate while others are obviously Titan pictures. Who knows though if they are actual suit pictures or pictures of mockups/maquettes?

There is one pic in general I think could be legit, and that is the one posted in this thread already. The hand picture matches the description I heard previously about Godzilla's arm/arms being mostly skeleton...but it's such a weird/distorted picture that it could also be fake.

More to do with general skepticism. I know he has sources since he's a long time member of the Godzilla fanbase and I'm not saying he's lying. I'm just being a skeptic.

If this is what I'm thinking it's going to be, it's going to be the Colossal Titan repackaged as a Godzilla. And the fandom butthurt is going to be absolutely glorious.

I've said it once, I'll say it again. Anno is one of the worst choices for the job. And when this movie flops for a variety of reasons - the number one being it's obviously trying to outdo the American 2014 movie - we all know what Toho is going to do.

A. Stop. Just stop with Godzilla until Legendary is done and wait another ten years before revisiting the franchise.
B. Cling to the past. The same way Toho began clinging to the past after Biollante flopped and Megaguirus flopped after trying new material.

So get ready for a complete absence of Toho Godzilla or get ready for an onslaught of the Big Four - Godzilla, Mothra, MechaGodzilla, and King Ghidorah.

All the while, I'll be sitting back, a big grin on my face simply saying... "Told ya'll."

But, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe, just maybe, Anno will deliver a decent movie. But, from what I can tell from the head design, the "inside hints", the quotes from the staff behind this... I am highly doubting I am. This movie is going to be so hilariously serious and grimdark that it'll be meme worthy. My expectations for this film are remarkably low. But, as I said, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe. Also, I do *HOPE* I am, indeed, wrong.

I will say that if the design does look to be Red King-like in the neck, I don't know how I'll feel. That is a pretty long neck.
