This may not apply to you, but I'll throw it out there for others. This year I have conducted close to 30 interviews to fill a few open positions on some of my teams. I've always been fairly decent at being an interviewee but being the interviewer changed my perspective on the subject.

1. They have a need - there's no quotas for doing interviews and it eats a lot of time up, so they aren't interviewing for the heck of it. They are looking to fill that position in a timely manner so they can get back to their primary work

2. They think you may fill their need For me to even see your resume its already been vetted by at least 3 people. That means at the point of the interview 4 people are willing to take a chance on you, and many other candidates didn't make it as far.

3. Gaps in experience aren't always show stoppers Everybody has to start somewhere and rarely does someone show up that is "perfect for the job" (and when they do, you can't afford them). So I am looking for someone that is willing to learn. I usually coax people to try and get them to say that ("Have you done X?" > "Well are you familiar with X" > "Is X something you feel comfortable learning?"). If you have a decent resume I know your gaps before you step into the room. I am just looking for reassurance that you would close those gaps given the chance.

4. Explore the strengths and experience you do have - If I ask about something on your resume its most likely because that is one area I saw that made me think you were a candidate. I can read, so what I want to hear is specifics that let me know you've done X before and you would be comfortable doing X again. Short answers or parroting the same level of detail that's on the resume wastes everyone's time and doesn't strengthen your position in any way.

5. The best isn't always the best - sometimes the most qualified person is too expensive, sometimes the person with the most experience is stuck in outdated paradigms. Sometimes the guy that can learn the job is cheaper than the guy that already knows it. Sometimes personalities don't mesh. Don't think you are competing with other candidates, think that you are competing with the job spec...because you can't do anything about any other factor

There's probably a hundred more things I could break down of things to say and not to say, but those are the key points.

TLDR; Recognize questions that appeal to strengths and give details on how you handled difficult circumstances. Recognize questions that expose your gaps, acknowledge the gaps and assure the interviewer that given the chance to fill those gaps you would. Realize that getting as far as an interview means that they are hoping you can fill their need, its up to you to convince them

I was 13 when 9/11 happened, and it seems that my entire adult life will be in the background of neverending war.

The truely horrible thing is how successful terrorism is. It's cheap and effective. The obvious reaction is to counterattack with blood and thunder, but that's exactly what they want: further destabilization of the middle east, growing intolerance against Muslims (making more radicals)... How do you fight something thats objective is to get you to fight it? This isn't a war, it's a recipe for perpetual motion.

Well, I broke my toe while at work today. Workman's comp should take care of everything, but I'm gonna be off my feet for a while. I'm trying to think of it as an surprise vacation... with a surprise limit on my mobility to go along with it.

I'm ****ing pissed at T-Mobile right now. We got new phones last month, the S6 Edge and we paid $30 for the good brand of screen protectors and paid to have the guy at the store put them on. My screen protector was bubbling the other day so we went there and they told me there was nothing they could do. Today I pull my phone out after getting home from the movies and there is a huge spider webbed crack going around the entire phone even though I never dropped it or hit it on anything. It cracked because the guy that put the protector on was incompetent. We got the T-Mobile store and they refuse to take any responsibility for it and want me to pay $180 to get the phone replaced. ARE YOU ****ING KIDDING ME!!!?? "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" YOU T-MOBILE!! I'm going to get a new service provider and tell them to "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" off and not pay for their phone.

How exactly does an ill adhered screen protector (I'm assuming it's the thin plastic kind that are usually there to keep it smudge free) cause screen cracking? Regardless, phones problems suck heavily.

Anyway, it's for fears like that are the reason I get otter boxes. I usually got for the 3-stage protection, which is the hard plastic shell which has a screen protector built in covered by a rubber cover, and I put a second screen protector on it JUST to be sure. Oddly enough my Droid Maxx is the first phone where I've had issues with it not reading my swipping. So I have to press a bit harder than usual. Although I am tempted to do what my brother does and only get the case with clamshell and rubber but get a protective glass cover for it. He swears by them but they are a tad bit more expensive than I'd go for. Although there are some cheap versions online but I'm not sure of their quality.

If he had the "glass" screen protector and it's applied wrong it can crack. The same thing happend to my dad recently and we just got our new phones a month ago.

The screen protector should have a lifetime warranty Kain all you have to do is register it then request a new one if it's from Zagg. They'll charge you $5.99 shipping and handeling but it's better than spending $30 on a new protector.

Any way on topic for me I tried having my friend co-sign on a student loan so I could attend school this upcoming semester and that didn't go through so now I'm screwed until Fall then when I can get scholarships. Looks like Monday I'll be calling the student loan companies and getting deferments till the fall. :(

Man what a weird as heck week!

So Tuesday I bent over to pick up something on the ground and my work pants ripped in the back.
This was early in the work day, so I didn't feel like wearing a jacket around my waist for another 6 hours.
So I went to a nearby Goodwill (closer than my apartment) and got two pairs of rather nice & comfortable pants.
Then I went next door to Chipotle for lunch (saving it for a bit later) they were out of carnitas, and said it would take about 5 minutes to make more. I wasn't in a big rush, since we have to wait at least 31 minutes before clicking back in after clocking out. They gave me a drink (didn't order it), and then a bit later they said the meal would be free.

The next day I went to pick up an order I had placed at Walmart (Godzilla vs Biolante Blu-Ray) with a gift card I got from some settlement dealing with their agreement with Netflix being breached (Walmart was going to do some sort of movie rental service via mail). I went to the usual Walmart I shop at, but I apparently got it at another store down the road from there. So I go to the store and the pick-up area was at the front of the store (most are in back).
A lady was waiting to get something, but there was another button to push for help.
So I waited for a bit, and the lady left. I pushed the button a few more times, and they even paged a person to the area.
Another guy came up behind me and was waiting as well. So I got annoyed and stomped my way to the electronics area to get somebody to help us. Apparently the system wasn't working, so they took us to the jewelry counter instead.
After that they gave me a $20 gift card for the hassle.

So the next day I decided to get an oil change (I admit it was a bit overdue), and took it to the Walmart I go to.
They refused to do it due to some "tape" on the Jeep somewhere.
So I went back home for a bit and grabbed a coupon for the nearby Pep Boys.
I mentioned the issue with Walmart, so they looked under it. Now this Jeep has over 250,000 miles on it.
It was pretty badly coated with oil. They weren't even sure where it was leaking, but I was most concerned with it getting on the starter (it had been starting a bit sluggish for a couple days). I talked to my dad and he said just get oil changed.
So I did, but they forgot to give me the coupon price (plus wouldn't even try to clean the gunk off the starter).
So they gave me a free oil change coupon.

The next day since I was worried about the car, I didn't get much sleep.
So I got up at about 8 am (think I got to sleep about 4 am) to go to the nearby laundry.
Did my laundry and got in my car, which then didn't start.
So to see what would happen, I walked to a nearby Family Dollar and got some engine degreaser/cleaner and a toilet brush.
Sprayed the heck out of the starter and around the area and used the brush to clean it as best I could.
The car suddenly started! So I was happy, and got home and sprayed more and cleaned it more with another toilet brush.
It started OK for a while, until yesterday...

Yesterday I went to Chick Fil A for lunch and the car was starting rough again.
Got back to work and had a bit of time before I had to clock back in (we get hour lunches, and most the time I eat in under 30 minutes). So I sprayed the stuff again and tried to start it a couple more times, and it just died.
Tried to get it jumped from a helpful guy, but no dice. Called a roadside assistance thing to see if they could help.
They tried jumping it with a battery box, but again nothing.
So I called back to get a tow truck to take it to Pep Boys (within walking distance of my apartment).
They somehow sent 2 tow trucks...one was offering to try to jump it again, but the other was gonna wait until I was done working. Plus take me with the jeep as well.

So today I am going to try to get it fixed at the Pep Boys.
Since I can't really afford a car payment currently.

Not to mention that our store is open on Thanksgiving Day at 5 PM.
I made arrangements to work a bit later than that, so I can eat dinner with my family.
Of course I hope I won't have to work at all, but I obviously need $.
I work Friday all day (10 am-11 pm) and Saturday as well.
Hopefully the car is working so I can go to work...

^Man I feel for you. Food Poisoning is no joke. I used to think I had it quite often (a slight rumbling in the stomach, or some extra trips to the bathroom after a potentially incorrectly prepared meal).

Nope, -about 6 years ago I had my first (an only) REAL bout with it. Not to be gross but... . Also my daughter had it about 3 years ago from some bad cottage cheese. What was scary was that she didn't stop vomiting for 3 days, but then it finally, thankfully, stopped. -Like I said, I used to think it was no big deal until I really had it. Now I would never wish that upon anyone. --

--Get plenty of rest. I hope for your speedy recovery

Eh, seems like the worst is now over. I feel about 90% better than I did yesterday and I still don't feel good (which tells you how horrible I felt yesterday). At least things are looking up.

My best friend called me today while I was at work to tell me that he got money for our business. I know what your think why is that in this thread? Well he got it from his father in law and I'm no longer part of said business. Words can not express how I feel right now.

First world problems yo, :| but:

I kept waking up every hour last night, which has been happening for the last 3 out of the last 4 days and I had Jury Duty today. I go into that, finish filling out the questionairre and then learn that they summoned me for the wrong county, so I am dismissed. However, that also means I just lost a day's pay.
