I think what's worse is the amount of gloating that you see in that thread, like this is some sort of validation that Godzilla 2014 is a good movie. I see it as a reaffirmation that the subreddit is full of a lot of morons.

I don't trust anyone's opinions on Reddit. The hate on the Showa films can be a bit unreal of there.

I find it interesting that G'14 is so divisive. Like many, I like it but don't love it. It's a middling godzilla film. But when considering the budget and resources available (and the cast!) compared to other entries in the series, just being okay or even decent feels like a tremendous missed opportunity. I think that's where a lot of the "hate" stems from. Disappointment. But ultimately, I think it's funny that the film can elicit reactions at either extreme end of the love/hate spectrum. I think that's the films biggest flaw. It wasn't good enough for me to LOVE it and it wasn't nearly bad enough for me to HATE it. And that makes it, sadly, a bit forgettable IMO, which may be a bigger sin in the end.

I like some aspects of G's Revenge, but prefer King Kong vs. Godzilla. I vote for the latter.

While I like the fight scenes of KK vs Godzilla, I unironically adore Godzilla's Revenge. I think it gets a bad rap and is no where near as bad as most fans say. Its certainly better than a lot of the bland, by the numbers Heisei and Millennium films. My vote is going for Godzilla's Revenge. This one is for Ichiro and Minya!

This is legitimately difficult for me. Like Danny, I unironically, unabashedly, ADORE Godzilla's Revenge. I think regardless of the stock footage, it's a legitimately fun kid's movie that actually teaches a lesson. I personally always identified with Ichiro quite a bit. I wasn't a latchkey kid like him, but I definitely understood what it was like to have only a couple friends, and get picked on by some kids, but ESPECIALLY what it was like to have a very active imagination. People label him as annoying, but I never saw ANYTHING he did as annoying: he's a kid, who loves Godzilla, and despite being scared out of his wits when two adult bullies kidnap him and threaten him, he manages to find the inner strength to fight for himself. Ichiro rules.

That said, I think I gotta give the nod to King Kong vs. Godzilla, which is super fun and has some great characters, even if it does slightly drag in the middle a bit.

Got to say that I did a 180 on G's Revenge since I first saw it. I was totally on the "clip show bull crap!" bandwagon but now enjoy it.

But I got to go with Kong.

King Kong vs Godzilla. It's not really debateable. Godzilla's Revenge is an interesting movie, that actually has held up pretty well and does it's thing really well, but still, I would never call it a great Godzilla movie. It certainly isn't a classic like King Kong vs. Godzilla is.
