This is the toughest match for me. I love Godzilla vs. Gigan, but Ghidrah might be my favorite of all the Godzilla movies. It gets my vote.

I'll give my vote to Ghidorah, which improved to me on seeing it again recently; whereas Gigan diminished on my last viewing of it.

Pound for pound, I find these movies more or less equal. I'll chip in for G '14, though.

Biollante all the way. It does Godzilla way better than Godzilla.

I enjoy G2014...and I'll NEVER understand the HATRED some have for it (other than I think some people feel like they need to be overly negative about it just because some people genuinely ARE overly positive), but this is Biollante ALL. THE. WAY.

Godzilla 2014 is easily one of the best Godzilla films we've had since - well, since Godzilla vs. Biollante. 8)
It's still not up to par with Biollante, though.

By all means continue patting eachother on the back for people harshing on Godzilla 2014 too much. I can't help but feel this is being partially directed at me, but then again, maybe I'm just reading into it. For the record, I think it's an OKAY film, but I haven't watched it in over a year from a lack of desire to sit through it, and it doesn't crack my top 10 in the least.

That being said, one of the reasons I'm critical of this film is because of reasons like this: https://www.reddit.com/r/GODZILLA/comme ... nal_round/

Godzilla 2014 is about to beat Godzilla 1954 as the best Godzilla film of all time on reddit, after a poster took this thread and did a version of the movie tournament. You have posters in this thread openly mocking people for thinking Godzilla 1954 is the better film, and another saying Godzilla 1954 is undeserving as the shoehorned winner.

Anyways, I know that this forum isn't nearly as insane, but yeah, after talking to people who think that Godzilla 2014 is the best movie of all time for the last 2 years, it gets a little old and you start to refine specific reasons why you don't like the film, in detail.

I don't actively dislike G14, but it doesn't come anywhere near my top 10. It mostly strikes me as a missed opportunity - executed not poorly, but frustratingly. In comparison to the last American attempt at a Godzilla movie it's cinematic gold, but as a part of the series as a whole it falls well short in my mind. But I fear we digress.

Not really directed at you, Jorzilla. Your feelings towards G2014 are pretty well documented around here, though you do SOMETIMES fall into the trap of coming off like you hate it by arguing with people who like it. There are people who HATE it though, and I'm sorry, but I'll never understand that.

Nobody's really patting each other on the back. I threw out a comment and people replied, discussion. I feel we have one or two users who DO hate it and I know some old-school superfans (or what some people would consider "authorities", like Steve Ryfle) hated it... I don't understand that.

Like Legion's comment "You're kidding right?" What are we kidding about? This is the matchup based on the past round. Nobody's even voting for 2014, what's there to kid about? Is it THAT laughable that 2014 won ONE round? Against a lazy Heisei movie? Why the condescension? There's nothing with the way this poll has gone thus far that has me looking down my nose at anyone else, even with a few things not going the way I voted. It's not like we're voting Revenge over Gonira or anything.

Yeah, I started the tournament on Reddit. I was kind of hoping this wouldn't be the final fight nor the out come of it. I do understand both the enthusiasm for G'14 and the feeling that it's unfair that G'54 is the most legit movie of the Godzilla franchise. I almost felt like disqualifying it to get more of an even match. The next time I do a Godzilla tournament I think I'll take out the winner or top 3 or so of this one and see what fares best from the rest.
