From an earlier draft of the screenplay:

"Mythical serum Titan?!?"

Is that what's producing the gigantic fauna of Skull Island? Turning apes into Kongs and turning birds and lizards into prehistoric throwbacks?

The "... other famous creatures." bit is interesting. On the surface it probably refers to other Toho kaiju, however the very short description is enough to make me wonder. Warner Brothers does own the rights to at least a few other giant and famous creatures that could theoretically work within this nascent WB-Legendary movie universe.

If King Kong is just the beginning, could we see Mighty Joe Young? the irradiated ants from Them? the Rhedosaurus? the giant prehistoric scorpions of The Black Scorpion? the Kraken?

In the lead-up to Godzilla (2014), there was speculation among the fandom about whether the film would be set in the same continuity as the 1954 original, as every Toho-produced Godzilla movie since then has done so far. How ironic that the 2014 film might retroactively be set in a world where the events of King Kong (1933) took place.

Judging by the crane-type vehicle in the second photo, it looks like that skull might be a fair bit bigger than previous Kongs. Maybe they really are just going to have him be that big from the get-go.

And here I was half-hoping they'd go with the time-honoured "radiation made him bigger over the years" approach for getting him to a size relative to Godzilla. :P

I wonder: why red? Is it easier to do some kind of digital overlay with the red?

Yeah I could see that being the case, especially if they really do end up playing this as a follow-up to the 1933 original and have the new Kong be the son of the original or something.

If they go the route of this movie following the 1933 film, it would be mighty interesting if they made this movie's Kong an albino like in Son of Kong.

That interview with Hiddleston is exciting because he seems so legitimately excited about the movie.
