I hope that will prove to be the set up of Skull Island. This way the reports of a later time period for the movie make sense (and it's probably cheaper to recreate larger sets for the late 60s - 70s than the 30s) and perhaps most importantly K:SI won't be yet another version of the King Kong origin story.

Prequel or Sequel, I always just assumed it would be set in the same "world" established in PJ's KK 2005, because hey its Universal, why abandon an established world for yet another total reboot? If it is set in the 1970's, I can see it still as a pseudo "version" of Son of Kong, just set in the 40+ years later as opposed to just one year after in the case of the RKO version. I mean in PJ's Kong, they did mention that the Island was unstable and had been slowly sinking over the centuries, the 1970's might be the right setting for all this to take place.
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

This is just my personal opinion on Skull Island and not based off of any article or news that was announced. I really don't think this is going to be a prequel to any existing King Kong movie, whether it's the original 1933 or the 2005 remake. I think this is just a re-imagining of the King Kong legend based on the basic idea of Kong (giant ape from a prehistoric island, is brought to the mainland and causes havoc, etc.) And from what I understand, there is an old novel of Kong that is in the public domain, so Skull Island could just as well be a prequel to that. Who knows.

Whatever the case, if this movie is successful I strongly believe that Legendary is trying to build it's own giant monster universe. So in future sequels or crossovers, Skull Island could become the future Monster Island! :mrgreen:

Only time will tell...
