Godzilla 2000. S.O.S. is one of the least interesting entries.

G2000 all the way, the middle third may be boring but I love Godzilla's characterization in this film.

Godzilla: Tokyo SOS is a movie that has not held up over time for me at all. Yoshito makes for a pathetic protagonist, Hiroshi Koizumi is wasted in a throwaway role, and the entire human side of the story just amounts to forgettable melodrama. For the second movie in a row, the battle between G and MG is protracted by knocking MG out of commission midway through and having the main character rush to reactivate the cyborg; nothing but a drag on the proceedings. The plot barely taps the storytelling potential of Kiryu being the original Godzilla reanimated, reducing it to an echo of the "Please return the egg!" plot from Mothra vs. Godzilla which goes nowhere and filling in the difference with recycled scenes from that 1964 film. Mothra bites Godzilla's tail and the Kiryumosugoji suit can barely flail around. Michiru Oshima's score is fantastic and both Mothra and Mechagodzilla look really good but Tokyo SOS still amounts to one of my least favorite Godzilla movies.

Godzilla 2000 easily gets my vote. It's my favorite entry in the Millennium Series and both cuts of the film have endless replay value for me.

"S.O.S." recycled too much from "Mothra vs. Godzilla" and missed a chance for a first-ever Mothra-MechaG fight. G2K has Katagiri. G2K gets my vote.

Ugh. Dislike both. I'll go with G2K for being the first Godzilla movie I got to see in theaters (despite the fact that it ushered in the dorsal plate Godzilla design and I much prefer the dorsal fin look).

Definitely Godzilla 2000. It does drag a bit but it's got great characters (a rare thing for a Godzilla movie since the seventies) and I love both the look and the personality of Godzilla. It's also got some great miniature work and a fun plot.

SOS has great suits/props for Mothra and MechaGodzilla and some pretty nice miniature work. But, as many have pointed out, it relies on almost NOTHING but recycled themes, plots, and scenes from previous entries. And it has some downright terrible editing, especially in the fight scenes. Not to mention while G2000 is in my top 3 favorite G suits, the Kiryu Goji suit is possibly the LAST suit on the list if I were to rank every suit from best to worst.

Both are fun movies imo. My first gut response was Tokyo SOS but honestly the more I think about it the more I think g2k is superior. It's just better fleshed out.

I've already voted, but I'm surprised that SOS is getting hammered so badly in the contest. I find G2K boring - the monster battles are a snoozefest, the CGI and matte shots are cringe-worthy, and Orga is poorly executed for most of the film.

SOS certainly has issues, but I find it far more appealing than G2K despite being a hodgepodge of recycled ideas.

I wish I had found this thread sooner!

Godzilla 2000 gets my vote. SOS has good music and effects, but the plot and characters are really bland. I also find it odd how the movie gets credit from many for its long fight sequences when in fact the actual scenes we get are rather short and spread out between longer scenes of the (boring)human cast doing (boring)things - not that much unlike a certain more recent film which has gotten some flack for the same thing.
Godzilla 2000 isn't a favorite of mine, but I want to like it more than I do, because it feels more interesting and ambitious. Under different production circumstances, I think it could have been a really great movie.

Godzilla 2000 easily. It's a top 10 Godzilla movie for me. Lots of fun, good characters, and probably the BEST post-Showa portrayal of anti-hero/force of nature Godzilla.

SOS actually has more potential, but winds up being a worse movie at least in part because it wastes almost ALL of that potential. Every human-drama plot point is utterly half-baked...in fact, every PLOT POINT is utterly half-baked with nothing being given more than lip service. It's a miscalculation to think that we would be bought in JUST because it's a sequel without returning any of the main cast. The new characters never ingratiate themselves to us and other than the kaiju themselves, nothing here really grabs me.

So I just watched Tokyo SOS last night (it's one of the last couple of Godzilla blurays from last year I hadn't watched yet). And...yeah.... Like Jelly said, the film has a lot of potential and totally fails to deliver on pretty much any of it. And the characters are totally unengaging and the plot is muddled and uninteresting (which sucks because it really is a cool premise!)

After this viewing I'd actually say this may be very near the bottom of my list down there with spacegodzilla and megalon. I still like it (the only Godzilla movies I honestly DONT like are spacegodzilla and G98) but it's definitely not that great.

Man did I let this one drag out too long. Godzilla 2000 destroyed Tokyo SOS 14 to 2.
This next one will be funny.

Mothra '92. Despite all its flaws (perhaps because of...some...of them) I actually like this movie. I actually enjoy the Indiana Jones ripoff scenes. But I'm a huge Indiana Jones/Generic Adventurer fan and I tend to enjoy those characters/scenes no matter how corny. I dunno, I think the whole film just gives me a general nostalgic vibe for some of the junk programming I just ate up as a kid and it *literally* has a "hazy Saturday morning" look to the filmography that reminds me of being 10 years old on Saturday morning and watching some crappy low budget 80's sfx kids movie. Plus I really like the new Godzilla suit they built for this and Battra is pretty awesome. So overall, not a good movie by any means, but I enjoy it.

Spacegodzilla on the other hand is just a tedious chore to sit through and as I mentioned earlier is really the only Japanese Godzilla film I genuinely dislike. I did finally see it in the original language with subs via the bluray last year and I will admit that it made it a bit more palatable. But I still have no burning desire to watch it again any time in the near future (i.e. The next 5 years probably...)
