There's no reason Peter Parker HAS to be a white guy.

And no, people wouldn't want those MINORITY roles like Black Panther being given to white guys, but that's because those characters are part of the diversity that people want to see MORE of in comics and superheroes.

Would I want "Hal Jordan" to be a girl? Probably not. Because "Hal" isn't a girl's name. But I'd be ALL for a female green lantern, and more female, black, Hispanic, etc heroes in general. I love the notion of the female Thor.

You and I (white guys) will like these heroes pretty much no matter what, because they're heroes, but young black, Hispanic, Asian, female, and other minority (especially MINORITY in the realm of comics) fans need more easily identifiable heroes.

If you get the RIGHT actor, I don't care if Peter Parker is played by a Hispanic guy who was raised in Taipei.
Gills.

But their race defines who their character is.

Look at Wally West. He is supposed to be this strong upstanding guy who had a great family and was chosen by the Speed Force.

However, this is not the case with this now black version. The New 52 version of Wally is a punk kid from a ghetto neighborhood who grew up without a family and has an edge on his shoulders. That is NOT Wally West.

I don't want to see black people play white guys. I don't want to see white people play Japanese guys. I don't want to see white people play black people. I don't want to see Japanese people play black or white guys. I want women to play female characters and men to play men characters.

If they want diversity, create a brand new characters. Hell, there was no reason for Will Smith to be playing Deadshot, or rather, Floyd Lawton, when they have Bronze Tiger and Black Manta in the Suicide Squad.

My personal opinion...

I'm all in favor of minority characters. Female, black, Asian, handicapped, eskimo, I don't care. BUT, I think the vision of the original artist who created the character needs to be respected. Now, to be honest I haven't kept up with the comics for like 20 years so I don't know what all has transpired with alternate realities and reboots and whatnot. I just want the characters to be as they were created, without anyone else deciding what they think is key to the character. If the character is Peter Parker I want to get the feeling that I'm seeing the Peter Parker from the comics I read when I was a kid. And he was a white guy. I don't see what's racist about that.

I'd really like to see a non-white actor play Superman, 'cause while he's an immigrant he's supposed to look like... um, I suppose you could say an 'average American.' What better message than having the symbol of the U.S. be black, or Latino, or Asian, ect.?

So nobody here would want to see Idris Elba as James Bond?

(I would, if he were ten years younger)

Hmmmm... Idris would make a rockin' Race Bannon for the Jonny Quest movie. It makes sense for Race to be a smidge older because he's a veteran secret agent.

Well that esclated quickly.

I kind of agree with Kain I'd want Peter Park to be white since the character is white but if they chose to go with a black or hispanic actor at least make the Spider Man character Mile Morales.
