So the other day I discovered on youtube. Basically in 2000 ADV got an anime and the company they licensed it from basically said "Do whatever you want with this" and so they dubbed the crap out of it. I know purists would hate that but damn if it isn't funny. I blew through all 20 episodes in a few days. I kind of wish there was more, but it is what it is because it wasn't too popular over in Japan.

Does anyone know of any other anime like that, besides Samurai Pizza Cats?

After that I was scrolling through netflix to put something on while I work on some projects and popped on The Devil is a Part-Timer. Man is this my kind of silly. I'm only five or six episodes in and I hope it doesn't get too serious.

Hakugei The Legend of the Moby Dick is similar since they focus on the comedy stuff more than the serious stuff.

Shin-Chan is obvious

Finished Reconguista.
What a baffling yet beautiful Gundam series. I'm not sure exactly how I feel about it.

Speaking of The Devil is a Part-Timer, anybody notice the girl that works at the "McRonalds" looks like a very grown up Chiyo-Chan from Azumanga Daioh?
She even has a similar name.

Took a bit of a hiatus from anime, but now I'm watching Ushio & Tora.
It's kinda "dated" looking (similar character designs to Fighting Spirit) but it's kinda fun as well.

Bought (at work) The World God Only Knows Season 3 on DVD for about $30.
Watched the first disc, and it's still a very fun show.

Would guess the OVA comes before this, cause some of the girls aren't familiar.

Watched the first 4 episodes, very fun!

I'm in the middle of watching Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. The plot is progressing faster than I remembered, but it's a great ride so far. The first series was a little too slow at times.

As for current shows, I'm following The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-Chan and Assassination Classroom. I look forward to seeing how far both shows get, having been reading the manga for them already.

Well, I've finished Dragon Ball and now I'm nearing the end of the Saiyan Saga.
For some reason I thought they included the Ocean Dub versions on the Orange Brick Season 1 set.
I miss "Rock the Dragon" that gets me pumped for an episode in a way Head Cha-La and whatever the garbage American music is for the intro is.
It's weird. I mean, I understand why it wouldn't be on there, but the alternative is terrible.
I suppose I could listen to the Japanese music, but the Falconer stuff is where my nostalgia lies.

On the other hand, they did release the Ocean dub in the "Rock the Dragon Edition" of DBZ. The quality's not great - the video comes straight from VHS tapes - but the set's good for nostalgia, and it has some of the movies with the Ocean dubs.

Time for fun facts! Did you know "Rock the Dragon" was composed by Shuki Levy, and that Levy has composed themes for many many shows over the years. A very abbreviated list of Levy's work includes:

- Ulysses 31
- The Mysterious Cities of Gold
- He-Man and the Masters of the Universe
- Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors
- M.A.S.K.
- Dinosaucers
- Samurai Pizza Cats
- X-Men
- Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?

Been watching Otoboku Maidens are Falling For Me very slowly.
In the meantime I am watching Appleseed Ex Machina that I bought at a local used store for about $5.
Also bought (and watched) The World God Only Knows Season 3 (Goddesses).
It was really fun & cute, will buy the OVAs when they come out & hope they make more of this show someday.

I finally finished Parasyte.

It's a pretty solid show - I dig the parasytes and the action is intense. The philosophy that drives the show is pretty interesting; Migi has a specific way of looking at things and it plays out through the finale. I would give the show a 7 or 8/10.

Been hanging out at other forums.

Bought Appleseed Ex Machina & watched it.
Gave up on Otoboku for now.

Decided to try to watch my collection in the order it's on the shelf.
So I started on 801 TTS Airbats (up to episode 5).
It's a short show about cute girls who are fighter pilots.

If you guys are interested I post over on the Animenation forums now.
Since the Right Stuf forum closed down yesterday...

Might pop in from time to time, but might not...

Watched Adventures of the Mini Goddess after finishing 801 TTS Airbats.
It's a fun show that has short episodes, and 4 of which feature a Godzilla like creature.
Also a few anime references like Space Battleship Yamato, Galaxy Express 999, Berserk, and Haijame no Ippo (spelling?).

Now watching Ai Yori Aoshi*, forgot just how cute the girls are in this show.

Woo! I've made it to the Cell Saga..or whatever it's called. Kaniccolo (Kami/Nail/Piccolo Fusion) is fighting Imperfect Cell!

Man, Imperfect Cell is so much better a design than Perfect Cell. The Android Saga...Well, everything with Trunks up to Gero releasing Android 17 and 18 moves at a decent pace...but things have slowed again.

I put Ai Yori Aoshi on hold & borrowed Date A Live & Battle Girls Time Paradox from the local library.

Watched all of Date A Live (first season), and it was pretty fun.

Watched the first disc of Battle Girls, it seems pretty fun as well.

Also been watching (via YouTube) Powerpuff Girls Z.
It was dubbed, but never released on DVD in the USA.
It's a bit different than the cartoon version, but again it's pretty fun.

All 3 dubs are pretty well done.
Date A Live features a decent cast including Monica Rial in a supporting role, and she only says "that's so lame".
Battle Girls features Britney Karabowski and her cute "squeaks".
Powerpuff Girls Z sounds similar to the cartoon, but might be different people.
The villains are dead on, whomever did the voices.

I also bought Aria The Animation via Amazon (though I used the Right Stuf 3rd party seller shawnek).

I'm currently watching quite a few shows - Assassination Classroom, The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan, Ninja Slayer, Watamote!, Teekyu!, I Can't Understand What My Husband Is Saying, Angel Beats! - but one that I'm particularly hooked on is the new show Blood Blockade Battlefront (Kekkai Sensen). It's sort of a secret agent/superhero show set in a transformed NYC where humans coexist with aliens and Lovecraftian beasts. The art & animation of the show are great, the humor is perfect, the music is cool, there are Western pop culture references everywhere (even a Pacific Rim shout-out), and it's just fun and engaging altogether.
It moves at a mile a minute, though. I'm going to NEED to re-watch it. Anime News Network that sells the show way better than I can.

I've started watching Knights of Sidonia.
I love, love, love Blame! by Tsutomu Nihei and thought NOiSE and Biomega were pretty solid as well, but i hadn't read any of Knights of Sidonia, so wasn't sure what to expect. Seems like the anime has lots of references to his other work, but the surrealism of the world seems to have been replaced by constant exposition dumps explaining every little detail, which is a bit of a bummer. There are still the wonderfully paradoxical architectures and megastructures, the bizarre creatures, the themes of human evolution and humanity's hopes for survival in a post desolation environment. Definitely the largest cast of any his works i have seen yet but some of the romance angles seem to border on genre parody rather than feel organic to the story. I'll keep watching it, but really it makes me want to re-read Blame! and Biomega more than anything

Watched the first season of Heaven's Lost Property on Netflix. It was way more pervy than I'd like. It's funny but just a bit too much for what I was expecting.

Anyone have some recommendations on some comedic dubbed animes?

That's the point of the Heaven's Lost Property show...
Let's face it, if a really hot girl literally landed on your lap, what would you do...?

I borrowed Disgea & Momo The Girl God of Death: Ballad of a Shinigami from the library.

Disgea was kinda fun & the demon girl & angel girl were cute.
The Prinny's were lots of fun, dood!

Momo was kinda sad, yet kinda moving as well.

I just wasn't aware from the description on Netflix that it would lean less towards casual fanservice and more towards blunt perversion. Guess I just wasn't prepared for it.

I watched several episodes of Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi via Amazon Prime (I totally forget that I have this service) and that's been fun. The country bumpkin dubbing was odd at first but it's worked it's charm on me. It's genre hopping is fun and I enjoy the slow build of the first episode leading to the chaos that is everything after it.

And since I finished of Brooklyn 99 I really should finish this before I move on to Hannibal (which in googling the title to get it right I find is ending with season 3!). Although in all honesty, I really should catch up on the Walking Dead. I got friends giving me the stink eye and bemoaning how they can't talk about it around me for fear of spoilers (when I honestly stopped caring about spoilers with that show since the official FB page posted about a character's death before the episode aired).

ADV loved doing that "Southern Drawl=Osakan Dialect" thing often.
See Azumanga Daioh, Nerima Daikon Brothers, etc.

BTW "Sashi" (Satoshi) the main guy is voiced by Luci Christian.

Borrowed Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere & Bubblegum Crisis from the library.

Horizon is kinda odd, and not sure if I like it after 4 episodes.

Bubblegum is pretty fun so far.

Like I said before, make sure to check out your local library to see if they have anime.
You might be surprised that they do.
If not, maybe suggest they start carrying some (maybe even donate some of your older stuff to them).
