I like D'Onofrio as Kingpin, a lot.

Grim & Gritty Daredevil Reboot

Postby mr.negativity » Mon Aug 25, 2014 6:59 am

Netflix CCO Ted Sarandos talks here about assembling Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist into The Defenders, where they're at with casting, the grounded costumes and making Daredevil darker than the movie, and whether these shows will cross over with the movies...

Didn't know DD wore a generic black ninja suit. Wonder if we'll see him in the red suit any point in the show.

I thought it was interesting. I mean, I was already in.
Although I don't think we'll see the red costume until maybe the end of the season. Maybe not even then.

Just saw a review for the series, its apparently dark, gritty and unlike anything we've seen from Marvel yet. Its also apparently good. I'm looking forward to it.

If there's a Marvel hero who should be dark and gritty, it's probably Daredevil.

It makes sense. I think Daredevil should probably not be all dark and gritty like Punisher, but there is a duality between the light of Matt Murdock and the darkness of Daredevil. If it skews too far in either direction you lose some crucial part of the character.

From a cinematic perspective there is an incredible fight scene in episode 2. There's some potential cheats but it plays like a single take. Very impressive considering the fast cuts we've been getting in a lot of action sequences lately.

I've watched the first 3 eps.
I love this show. I'm taking a break tonight (school + everything has wiped me out), but I can't wait to start back tomorrow.
Hopefully I don't encounter any spoilers.

Watching Ep. 9 now. Keep wanting this show to go further. I like it a lot....but I want to see DD and Kingpin proper.

I was going to watch this last night but other family members were using the account so I ended up catching up on Arrow and The Flash.

Although a friend of mine had complaints of it being too dark, but does admit that he's been sick and grumpy the last few days so his harshness could be from that.

I've liked everything I've seen on the show although with the latest poster that shows the red suit, the suit kind looks like a modified Captain America suit. I know I'm only basing it on a single shoulder high shot of it, and I wouldn't be surprised if the same people who designed and approved Cap's suit did the same for DD's. It's just a bit too homogeneous at first glance for me. I doubt it'll ruin the experience for me, but it just gives me the silly headcanon that MCU has their own Edna Mode.

I don't really understand how it's too dark. I think tonally it's spot on with Miller's DD stuff. It's certainly the darkest thing to come out of the MCU, but I don't know if that's a bad thing.

I agree. It's unique in that it does things that the rest of the MCU doesn’t, which makes the shared universe richer.

We watched the first five episodes to Dare Devil today and they are all right. You can definitely tell this is the first season because they haven't figured out what they really want to do with anything yet. I do feel it is taking a little too long for Matt to take the name DareDevil and give us his damn costume. On the other hand, I like the things that are happening with Fisk, and right now, he is the best thing about the show. The acting is decent, but the female characters seem to have the same bad writing as they do in the DC stuff. I guess these writers just don't know how to write strong female characters in anything these days. Oh, and I know the comics were violent, but this is a little excessive at times. Finally, I do love the subtle hints at the movies, especially the Magic Hammer and Iron Suit comment from one of the Russians. I definitely want to watch more, but I'm glad this is not a weekly series otherwise it might not have my patience.

4 episodes in so far and I'm really digging it. Although the first few episodes are a bit slow (Setting up Matt and Foggy's lawyer career and taking their time introducing the gangsters, etc), I can see how this is already panning out to be an excellent series.

And DAMN, this thing is gory. I'm proud that Marvel went a dark route with Daredevil since that is true to the source material. It shows that (despite being a TV series), Marvel knows that their characters need different tones... so they CAN do a Daredevil series with a lot of swearing and violence, and it can still be in the same universe as Avengers or Agents of SHIELD or Guardians of the Galaxy... just like the comic universe.

If Avengers introduced aliens, Thor introduced gods and Guardieans introduced the cosmic side of the MCU, Daredevil is introducing us to the dark underbelly of it and I love that.

I finished it. I loved it, like 95% of it. Sure it would have been cool to see the full costume, but honestly I almost expected us to only see a glimpse of it in the last moment of the show. As it is, I really enjoyed myself, and concerning these netflix series, I'm as hyped if not more so than I am for some of the movies coming out (Civil War and Guardians 2 excluded).

The costume is really cool. I feel like there's a bit too much black near the face, but it's a nitpicky thing.
