Evidently, it's more Takarada cameo complaints and Lees lays it ALL at Gareth Edwards' feet, alleging it was his decision to cut the scene, and keep it off the DVD, and claiming it (as well as other minutia such as Edwards' inability to remember the first Godzilla movie he saw) expose him as a non-fan and liar and terrible person.

I only glanced at my issue due to the immense backlog of comics I had. I'll check it out later.
They're never going to drop the cameo issue, huh?

Yeah, was super disappointed in the lack of extras on the Blu-ray, but that's WB's fault, not Edwards'.

Most of the WB releases I have are light on the extras, unless they're a special edition or something put out much later.

I tend to think that this movie is severely over-rated, but it's also funny how much vitriol will get spit at someone prominent who didn't like the film. I haven't read his editorial since I haven't subscribed to GFAN...ever, but I can get why someone would be pissed that Takarada was cut when other scenes are retained. Assuming that it would have happened when Brody first went to Japan, why was a scene that was played for laughs (the father chastising his son in poor Japanese) retained while the cameo was cut? It's a possibility that the scene was totally botched, but it's frustrating that there wasn't retained and we only get a "well, I tried" remark from Gareth. Yes not everything is up to the Director of the film, but a lot of fans are willing to just shrug and say, "Oh well," while simultaneously getting more upset at people who are still bothered by it while excusing the film for not even including it as a special feature.

Seems to be in a similar vein as when Ryfle wrote that this Godzilla was white-washed only to have the discussion turn into why he was wrong instead of a critical eyed turned towards the new movie. The only "prominent" fan that I can really think of, off of the top of my head, who really liked the film a lot, was August Ragone.

And again, Gareth Edwards has nothing to do with special features. Laying that at his feet is entirely unfair.

It's the equivalent of blaming Takarada himself. These aren't the home video guys. They don't get to make that call.

Basically par for the course on responses.

1. Steve Ryfle is still wrong, don't question the movie.

2. Gareth Edwards is not responsible for the non-inclusion of the cameo in either the final cut or the special features (despite being the Director).

Neither of you actually addressed what I said at all, you gave the same responses we've seen over the last 9 months.

I understand completely. Anyone that doesn't like GINO does it purely because it doesn't live up to an arbitrary reason. All aboard the relativism train!

Dismiss Ryfle by calling his internal standard as arbitrary? If that's the argument, that can be made for anything. If you don't like any of my favorite movies it's because you have an arbitrary standard that it doesn't meet.

The fact that megaguirus is one of jd Lee's favorite films means his opinion is dead to me.
