I've been trying to convince the Mrs to watch that with me recently

Had to make an impulse purchase online. This should turn up for me next week:

Ugh. I really need to concentrate on getting some of the movies I should have had for years. There's always so much cool new stuff being released that you can forget about your old favorites that have been released for forever.

... but: making headway!

Three classics (although with "Kagemusha", that movie is screaming for Mifune. It is ashamed he and Kurosawa were no longer collaborating during that time).

Picked up 101 Dalmatians. It's a simple and short film, but I just love the style.

Quality on the "Sunrise" blu-ray is good, but it was not one of those that was digitally restored like "Nosferatu" or "Metropolis". As for as supplements, one can watch the Fox Movietone version or the European silent version. And you have outtakes and all narrated by John Bailey, which was interesting because he spills some of the secrets on how this or that shot was accomplished.

I have yet to see Murnau's "The Last Laugh" but I do have "Faust" (as well as "Nosferatu"). Emil Jannings plays a very creepy Mephisto (of course, in my mind, that fact that he was a Nazi sympathizer, makes his performance even more eerie). Nevertheless, it is Jannings who makes the movie work.

Pre-orders for First Men in the Moon and Journey to the Center of the Earth are live! Due to the greater interest in genre titles Twilight Time's expanded both of the titles' runs from 3,000 to 5,000 copies.

Ugh, $65 seems like an awful lot for two movies that I'm not an enormously die hard fan of. But at the same time I don't want to be stuck having to pay $100+ for them a year from now if I suddenly decide I can't live without them... I mean, unless they re-issue some of their previous genre flicks, I'll probably never own them on BD. I like Mysterious Island, but I don't $100 LOVE it... So frustrating.

Anecdotally, I just bought a used copy of Jason and the Argonauts on BD for $14 because I happened to notice it had jumped to $40 on amazon. I had just procrastinated picking it up for ages. I guess it went OOP b/c once I saw the amazon price I immediately started searching around and the cheapest I could find a new copy for was nearly $30 from play-asia.com.

I looks like being a genre film fan who still prefers physical media is about to start getting expensive... (lets not even talk about the prices for some of those old Toho dvds. I still regret never buying Matango...)

Wow, things have changed. That Toho Pack with Matango, Mysterians and Varan had stuck around Amazon for the longest time! That said, Matango is still around $30, chump change compared to Dogora, Space Amoeba, and especially Atragon and FCTW.

Matango's come back down then. All those titles fluctuate up and down periodically. And yep, space amoeba's another one I really regret not buying when it came out.

Space Amoeba and Latitude Zero are two I wish I'd bought. I wish I'd bought Space Amoeba rather than Dogora. And Latitude Zero rather than Varan.

Hell, I have a lot of fun with War in Space, when I watch that. Wish I'd bought that also.

Those all came just a couple years too early for me, when I was still in school and had to spend my money on stuff like beer and liquor and more beer.

I finally purchased GODZILLA (2014) on Blu-Ray because it was on sale for $15, which means I'm finally caught up with all of the current US home video releases (I replaced all my DVDs with Blu-Rays, except for the nine classic films that are still unfortunately DVD-only).

Watching it now, and the transfer doesn't look nearly as bad as the screencaps I've seen, on this particular TV anyway. Had to boost the brightness a bit, but I haven't really had a hard time making out details so far. Odd.

There are a lot of MB DVDs I wished I had bought but never had the chance to. Not sure why they haven't reissued them either, or at least someone else get them. Those include Atragon, Frankenstein vs Baragon, Latitude Zero, and I think there were like two other Toho movies they released I did not get. I was hoping they would have done a second movie pack to go witht he Mantango/Varan/Mysterians one, but nope. I think the problem was that I had never seen any of them but FvsB, so they were never my top priority.

Anyway, I got these this week:

I'm torn on whether to get the Creature from the Black Lagoon collection as I don't feel like 3 movies for the price is worth it when the other collections all have at least like 6 movies.

Preordered the upcoming 4k remaster of "Journey to the Center of the Earth", from Twilight Time. There was zero chance I wasn't going to jump on this... I bought the previous Blu of this film before I even had a Blu-ray player!
