Heard about this. Apparently they decided (quite rightly) that The Smurfs would work better as a purely animated fantasy more in the style of Peyo's original comics. In other words: what they should have done in the first place!

If the zombie craze is still in swing in two years maybe an adaptation of The Purple Smurfs would be prudent.

I'm behind this decision 100%. There's no way it could be worse than Smurfs in France.

I say bring on a reboot; the current movies should have been rebooted the instant the idea of bringing the Smurfs to "our world" was suggested.
