You know, one of the great things about Kong (maybe the greatest thing) is watching Kong beat the stuffing out of the other monsters that inhabit the island. Though I really enjoyed the middle portion of PJ's remake I find it a shame that Kong only had one (albeit extended) fight scene!

So what opponents would you like Kong to have in this new film? I really missed the pterodactyl fight from '33 in the '05 remake, so I'd like to see that. A triceratops fight would be interesting.

I'd like to see Kong fight some creatures in Skull Island's spider pit. Maybe after dropping down the cliff to the pit where the monster spiders, worms, two-legged lizards and other critters dwell, there's another dropoff to an even deeper, darker, underground cavern where larger and more bizarre creatures lurk. Kong could fight a huge shelled mollusk with talons or a giant star-nosed mole.

J.K. Simmons joins the film. Rather strong cast shaping up.

I'd like to see some of the Skull Islanders fleshed out into full-fledged characters. PJ's movie tried to distance them from any real world equivalent to avoid controversy, but I think it actually made it more problematic: instead of unfriendly natives they became flat-out monsters!

What I would love to see is more than one Kong on Skull Island, and eventually explain how the species got killed off with King Kong as the last surviving member of the species. Then at the very end, show Kong get zapped by some sort of radio active blast and grow to the size of Godzilla

One of the best examples of a stellar cast, but with an ultimately disappointing movie was "The Wolfman" remake. Godzilla 2014 was good. The Wolfman 2010 was not!

This movie could end up having this year's Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor.

It seemed so obvious to me this would be set pre-1933. I guess not. That post-WWI/ pre-WWII period is where Kong belongs in my head.

It's a bit of a hindrance if true but I'm willing to see what they do with it.

Interesting. I just assumed it would be set in the paat because of the vague prequel status and because I just always associated Kong with the 19th to early 20th century adventure story. I feel that's the era it's most at home in; when it still felt like there were still blank areas on the map.

But I have nothing against a later setting. Maybe (shades of MONARCH) in this film Skull Island has already made contact with the outside world but is kept secret? The natives retain some of their traditions but are in other ways modern, there's a scientific outpost and there are teams of people studying the dinosaurs and Kong...

JK Simmons said "Detroit" and people start the "Meh" wagon.

We have no details other than JK Simmons doesn't even know the title of the movie, if you read/watch the interview, and that he will be in the shot at Detroit and that he'll be able to watch baseball games while he's there.

Maybe we'll get Fay Wray-ed ala the Titanic and the bulk of the story will be told in flashback. Or maybe they are shooting a prequel to the Dino De Laurentiis movie! It would complete the trilogy: Skull Island, King Kong, King Kong Lives. Perfection.

How is this a prequel that takes place 40 years after the original? Do they figure out how to time travel???

Maybe it starts out in 1971 with a character talking about King Kong and that he ran into the ape before the incident in NYC?

Everyone's getting worked up about the Detroit thing. Y'all really should calm down. If anything that's the starting point, much like New York in the other versions. That doesn't mean it takes place completely in Detroit, at least I hope not. It'd make the Skull Island subtitle one of the biggest bits of false advertising in some time if it did.

Regardless of time frame and origin point of the characters in the civilized world as long as I get to see Kong on a jungle island beat up other monstrous creatures, I'll be happy.
