Honestly, i think this trilogy could have been better if it have been done in just two movies, or a very long movie (as in The Return of the King Extended). As they are right now, they dragged too much IMO.

So what you're saying is Peter Jackson is the new George Lucas?

They are long, but they are not terrible. Terrible implies they are poorly acted with bad effects and a horrible plot. The plot is just fine. The acting is top notch. And the effects are incredible.

Bilbo did all of that in the movies too.

I guess that is the advantage of not reading the book. Outside of certain things, I don't know what was altered.

I can't believe you take any of that away from the movies WITHOUT having read the book. The only reason I understand who Bilbo is as a character is due to having read the books. If I base it solely on the movies, I dunno who or what he is other than the reason the LOTR series happens because he squirrels away the ring like an ass.

While I don't dislike these movies as much as Jelly, continually seeing CGI orcs get killed off, invokes a sort of a "been there, done that" scenario. I understand the battles have to be epic and I understand they have to be there, but these villains become less and less interesting with each passing movie.

Give Peter Jackson a "Seven Samurai" remake and he will probably have the bandits to be orc-liked, or something monstrous and have the samurai with super duper acrobatic skills that they can actually break the laws of gravity!

I don't get the complaints about the CGI. They were CGI Orcs ten years ago for LotR. Why is it a problem now?

I was listening to Joe Dante talk about Gremlins and he mentioned the rough cut of the film was 2 hours and 40 minutes long (an hour longer than the theatrical cut). There were a lot of scenes and characters he was sad about cutting, but he knew he had to make those tough choices for the sake of the pacing of the film.. that's the biggest issue i have with Peter Jackson, i don't think he is willing to make those tough choices and there is no one in the studio pressuring him to do so because his box office returns are so good.

To be quite honest though, I am thinking about getting rid of my BDs for the first two movies due to disappointed I was in the third one. I do not know if I really ever want to watch them again.

So I'm assuming that the DVD will have the that's at 1:03-1:08. Or did I pass out during the battle and miss that?
