Sounds good, and the director has worked with Nick Offerman, who's basically the human version of King Kong.

For the fun of it, they should make Hiddleston play Nels Helstrom, the Norwegian skipper who pieced together the map of Skull Island and who would later give to Denham (though I doubt they will be going with that).

As far as the director, I actually never heard of him before, but it looks like Legendary wants to bring up these young guys from the minors and see what they can do (and for the most part, they did succeed with “Godzilla”).

I know it's standard Hollywood procedure, but I can't help but feel heartened that others are rewriting Borenstein's script. On the other hand, I haven't seen anything that Gatins has written. Anyone better informed who wants to chime in?

I had to look up Gatins, he's not only a screenwriter but has directed and acted too. The only movie I've seen that he did the screenplay for was Real Steel which I thought was a pretty good movie with a solid story; apparently there's a sequel announced (I wonder if Pacific Rim had anything to do with that).

Universal just retitled this movie Kong: Skull Island and moved the release date to March 10, 2017, a week after the third Wolverine movie and just a month before Pacific Rim 2. I guess they figured it would be better off there instead of competing with Doctor Strange, Sinister Six, and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in November 2016.

I can understand wanting Kong's name in there for marketing purposes, and moving the release date a few months to a slot that feels more favorable.

... but I was looking forward to it being the big monster movie of 2016! Oh well, at least we'll have Toho's new Godzilla film.

Sounds promising. Of course, it can only ever be second best. King Kong Escapes will forever be best Kong film.

So... pardon my ignorance, but is this going to be an official prequel to Kong ('33?/'76?/'05?), a remake/reimagining, or some sort of alternate universe kinda thing???

Regardless, I'm all in. Just hope it's at least as entertaining (from an action/spectacle standpoint) as the Jackson Kong film but hopefully a tad more restrained. Too bad it most likely will not be as off thehook as KKE... but then what is? Maybe they could get Linda Miller & Rhodes Reason in bit roles? Highly unlikely of course, but it'd be fun. Just hope they make Kong a MONSTER and not just a big gorilla. Worst aspect of the '05 film, for me.

I've come to really like PJ's Kong design and his battered, scarred appearance, but I do hope we see the return of the 'Fantasy Gorilla' of the original.
