No but seriously, what God do I have to sacrifice virgins to in order to get Kiyotaka Taguchi the director's chair on the new Godzilla film?

Toho can handle destruction and mechanical effects in the CGI world, just not the creature effects for whatever reason. If they are serious about going the CG over suits they need outside consulting to help them. However that would cost money and take time... things they don't seem to like spending lots of.

I see them making an intentionally crappy looking Godzilla movie just to say, "see... it's the anti-hollywood movie!" Just to grab some pocket change.

or

Like others have been saying they will try and do the same stuff Legendary did, only at 1/4 the quality. There is nothing crappier looking than bad CGI.

Prove me wrong I guess.

Or, you know, they could do a combination of CGI and suitmation. Enhance the suit/props with CGI, much like the Thing prequel did back in 2011. Make a real Godzilla puppet head, but CGI stuff like the eyes, tongue, throat movement as he breathes, etc.

^Exactly. A combination of various special effects techniques is the way to go - just use whatever technique is best for portraying each shot.

Let's just hope it's better than GODZILLA (2014). The last thing we need is oversaturation of medicore movies like the last two eras...we need quality over quantity for a change.

I'd like it to not be CGI just to further differentiate it from what Legendary is doing.

I mean, that's really the major (only?) reason for me. I would be on-board with a CGI Toho Godzilla if there weren't a CGI Legendary series currently running.

I really do feel like a combination of techniques is the smartest way for Toho to bring this new Godzilla to life. CGI, miniatures, a suit - I'd even think it prudent to subcontract some work to overseas effects houses as with South Korea's The Host. For instance, some of the key close-up shots of CGI kaiju could be done by a company with more experience creating flesh and get creatures.

I'm certain that Toho is convinced it now has the resources to compete with Hollywood on their CGI capabilities. What's more, they will succeed for a budget within the range of practical effects. If anyone was paying attention to the dialog of the announcement, that's what Toho fully intends to do. As I stated before, this Godzilla will definitely be a new beginning for Toho and future special effects in the Japanese film industry. If for no other reason, G'14 opened up a whole new range of possibilities for the franchise.

An original kaiju or Dagarah:P Personally I'd like to see a sequel to the Heisei series or GRA and see Godzilla arrive battle a throwaway kaiju like Maguma and battle the military mostly.

I've got no idea what they'll invest, but $12 Million doesn't seem unreasonable to me. The last Godzilla movie before GFW they spent a little more money on was GMK (it had an ~$10 Million budget) and that was the last really successful Godzilla movie from them. Had GFW not been an utter disaster, I suspect they could've been rewarded for spending so much on it - Space Battleship Yamato, for instance, had a comparable budget and grossed nearly $50 Million.

Story is still more important than what kind of effects this will have. If we have another retread, special effects by itself, no matter how pretty it will look, will only help little.

What I do not want to see:

- Someone has a grudge against Godzilla, and wants his or her revenge.
- Godzilla needs to be killed or contained so therefore the goverment sets up a special force unit.
- A mecha to help out the situation and the story revloving around either the robotics expert or the person piloting it, or both.

Go back to the everyman point-of-view - reporter, scientist, bank robber, latch key kid , with minimal perspective from the military. It worked beautifully in the Showa series (and heck, even the Heisei Gamera series went that way).

^ Absolutely!

Part of what I liked about G'14 was its return to the everyman POV. Other than the big focus on the military and a soldier as a protagonist (which was new, we hadn't had a regular soldier as the hero before), it was very Showa Godzilla/Heisei Gamera in the way it told its story IMO. No G-Force/G-Graspers/JSXDF, no super-weapons or giant robots. Just normal people in a normal world struggling to deal with extraordinary events.

An everyman approach in a world with mecha could also be cool. That perspective would have been really great for Mechagodzilla 2002 after Kiryu went berserk.
