I always get nostalgic for the old day back in the early to mid 80's this time of year. Superstation WOR channel 9 out of NY/NJ had an annual Thanksgiving tradition of airing the original King Kong around 1 pm Thanksgiving day, followed up with Son of Kong. And then for a grand finale they showed King Kong Escapes. The following day was always Godzilla day following the same format with 3 movies.
I think for a few years after the Godzillathon ended for the day on WOR then WPIX out of NYC would air the good old AIP version of Godzilla vs the Smog Monster.
Another memorable part of WOR's 2 day marathon were the truly frenetic Crazy Eddie holiday electronics blow out sale commercials. I think that store chain was a major sponsor for the marathon along with another now defunct toy store called Toyland or maybe it was Playland.
The annual marathons always seemed to me to be the official start of the holiday season. Now WOR and WPIX are no longer independent superstations that are carried by cable tv,not that their programming is good anymore either.
