I was hemming and hawing on following through with an order, preordering and then cancelling a couple times before finally caving on a preorder purchase before release. And so, My Adult Godzilla Jr arrived on Friday, and I've been fiddling with it all weekend. I don't particularly like Heisei, and part of the reason is that I really don't like the G-suit in those movies, which is why I had trouble committing to a purchase. However, paradoxically, I really really love this figure. I think the coloring has a strong bit to do with it, but I'm also really impressed with the sculpted detail. In posing it I did have chance to detach the upper torso from the britches, and it seems a little odd that the waist ball joint is essentially in the spine. One question though, I'm a bit hesitant to use the beam blast accessory because it seems to put some friction on the teeth. Is that something I should be careful about, or can I use the accessory without worry of paint rub?

I'm sure things will change once I get him in person, but based on the comparison pictures from ImportingMonsters, I... I... I actually think I like the NECA one more...

There's aspects here and there that I like better on the NECA, but this still looks neat.
I hope we get a MUTO next year. I doubt it, but it'd be nice since NECA won't bother.

I think we might get both Mutos, likely as a two pack. Unfortunately I see them being web exclusives =/

I think NECA got the eyes better, and the color. But I feel theirs is just way too stiff in comparison, and I liked how the feet were improved.

Okay, I got this guy today! Thank you Mr. Mailman! And thank you Saturday!

So anyway, from a molding/sculpt perspective, and articulation he's a superb beast. There's a lot of detail in this guy and I love it. Perhaps what I like about the sculpt is that it takes the static model of NECA's and adds physics to it, like weight to it. Hence the spread feet and toes. Props to Yuji Sakai. Segmentation is pretty good too. There's a lot of weight to this guy too. Kinda heavy for his size, and easily heavier than Adult Jr. or even Godzilla 2000. And he's kinda big too. A little larger than Adult Jr, and more mass than Godzilla 2000.

Now the bad.

THE PAINT ON THE FACE IS ASS.

The blood red color on the snout was horrid, and mine had cross eyes too >=/. The teeth were pretty horribly colored. I do like the dry brushing on the stomach, chest, crotch, and underarms though. That's kinda cool.

I did manage to fix mine. However I have experience in this sorta thing so... It may not solve everyone's problems. What I did was I got a gold gundam marker, got a fine tip paint brush and bled a bit of the marker onto the brush and painted over the tiny tiny eyes. Let that dry and dotted the irises with a black fine point panel line gundam pen.

I am well aware the best way to do this is to disassemble the head and paint the eyes.

I didn't do that for two reasons. 1) I'm confident in my own painting skills to do such a thing. 2) I REALLY DO NOT WANT TO DISASSEMBLE HIS HEAD.

As for the blood red on the snout, I used Tamiya thinner over the snout in small amounts with a brush. Then I dry brushed it with a dark grey paint from a gundam marker.

I dulled the teeth with grey real touch gundam marker and used the blending pen and ran it over lightly with a q-tip. Later I want to dry brush the stomach, chest, underarms, and crotch areas with Tamiya Desert Yellow because I just wanna.

Anyway here's a bunch of pics, all post facial reconstruction surgery. :P

Man, all of you guys are making me itching to just cancel my preorder of him and stick with the NECA.

No one's stopping you lel.

I really wish they did a better job with the paint. The articulation and molding is just fine. Sucks a lot for people who got a bad copy, or don't have any gunpla skills

/begin rant

What I like about the SHMA G14 figure are the skin textures (Neca isn't beating that) and the dorsal spikes, easily the most prominent feature of the figure. My 6in NECA is fine and it's a great price, but let's not pretend NECA hasn't had issues. They flubbed the paint initially and quietly reissued a better painted figure. Several people, including me, had issues with the jaw not moving which requires you to disassemble it and reattach the jaw. The 12in tall NECA figure comes in shoddy packaging and mine had spikes poking through the plastic, causing them to bend (and that is a widely reported issue). One guy posted pics of his today where the torso was completely bent to one side and may have been missing a ball joint.

I guess my point is that for all the issues SHMA has, NECA also has them. One is more expensive and so people seem to focus on that..but it's not like either shoud be acceptable.

/end rant.

And somehow I sort of want the G14 now, especially the more I see of him. I agree about his face and teeth looking awful - the prototype was infinitely better in that area.

That's a fair assessment Hybrid. As I said before, my problems with this release are the paintjobs rather than the actual molding and articulation itself. It's solid all around. I feel the eyes could be a bit bigger. They are so tiny! Having played some more with him, he can pull off a lot of the poses from the movie for sure. Maybe not the final roar from the end, but it comes really close as shown in my pic.

I must say, Gareth Edwards was right when he spoke of the silhouette. My brother was fiddling with it earlier, and the sun was behind it and it looked so nice. Distinctly Godzilla, no way around it. Just looking different, like he often does.

Good news everyone!

Since the Monsterarts line was figured to be in the 1/700th scale roughly a few years ago I've shopped around for stuff in that scale.

So ANYWAY check this out

No before and after photos Shin?

I pulled the trigger and bought all three of the insects. They should be arriving next week-ish. BUT until I fill in the whole in my funds by selling things on ebay I won't open them or it's after Christmas, which ever comes first. Or I get too excited when they come in and just open them up like some sort of addict with absolutely no self-control what so ever.

Well I didn't do any before pics since well >_> those horrid paintjobs are everywhere you look. Everything I posted is an After pic.

What I will do though is post before and after pics of me dry brushing the ventral areas. Nothing wrong with the paintjob in the ventral areas, but me personally I want to add a bit of desert yellow (which is actually closer to a bright brown as seen in Gundam kits).

By insects you mean Adult Mothra, Adult Battra and the Larvas?

Pardon my ignorance, but I'm assuming if we buy from places like amiami and hobbylink the price you listed above is what we would pay? Or is it like certain states in the US where buying online omits sales tax?
