I liked how the action was intercut between Godzilla and the Mutos and the soldiers and the bomb. It felt a lot like the ending of Ghidorah TTHM to me.

I mean, the film isn't perfect (it is quite good), but that last 20 minutes I'll defend up and down.

If we cared about the characters more or if there was a sense of dread if the MUTOS won I'd agree with you.

That scene is so beautiful! All of the fight scenes were. And I love the interaction with all the people around the monsters, like that shot of the soldiers carrying the bomb while the monsters go at it in the background.

Simply epic!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who LOVED that Godzilla's breath is no longer the ridiculously stupidly overpowered one-shot kill of the Millennium era.

Not really sure if this is the place to post this...but a friend and myself were talking about the planned sequel for 6/8/18 and my friend was saying that by the time of its release, he believes that most people will have forgotten about the new film and any anticipation for a sequel will be long gone which got me to thinking...what if Legendary re-released the film for a limited time in 2016 as a "Extended Directors Cut"? This might, in my opinion, re-ignite peoples interest in the film and increase anticipation for the sequel while keeping the franchise fresh in peoples minds. Just a thought I had and was wondering how the rest of you would feel about this...

I don't wanna just nitpick here, but Dark Knight/Dark Knight Rises is a terrible example. Dark Knight was a mega-huge-ultra-insane-blockbuster, NOBODY was gonna forget about that one.

A product of it's time? Try the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico as a sign of the times (not to mention fracking). I think Hedorah would make an excellent revisit. The issue of pollution is as profound today as it was then. This planet is being contaminated like never before, especially in China.

The problem is that Hedorah's design isn't terribly interesting.

I think you can, and probably should make a monster that has commentary on environmental disaster. I don't necessarily think that creature needs to be the personification of pollution in a physical form.

There's no reason that Mothra can't fill that role, and considering she's confirmed for a sequel, it's a logical fit.

Fracking would fit in easily with the radiation feeding monsters in this universe, since there's been proposals for using fracking to new sources of uranium:

Way too controversial for a Hollywood movie. I'd be shocked if they did it.

Personally, I'd LOATHE seeing fracturing given a prominent role in a movie like this. Working in the industry, I'd probably find it extremely half-assed and insulting.

I wouldn't mind seeing/hearing it as an off-hand mention (ie, the way Charlie Day throws out "ozone depletion and carbon monoxide poisoning" in PacRim), but that's it.
