THE VISITOR (1979)

Postby kiryugoji04 » Wed Aug 13, 2014 6:05 am

We just finished watching this movie.

Check out this plot synopsis: "An intergalactic warrior joins a cosmic Christ figure in battle against a demonic eight-year-old and her pet hawk while the fate of the universe hangs in the balance."

Four reasons why this film is amazing:

1. It's amazing.
2. Did you read that synopsis?
3. It was filmed in Atlanta and depicted as Atlanta in a bizarre science fiction film. It's not standing in for New York or some other more expensive city or as part of a true-story-sports-film-period-piece. It's Atlanta. In the seventies.
4. It's amazing.

No, seriously. Go watch it. I want to double feature this movie with HOUSE so badly right now.

I watched 5 minutes of it on Amazon Prime a few weeks ago but turned it off when Farrah-Fawcett-haired little demon girl affected the outcome of a pro basketball game by creating a freaking explosion in a player's face when he was going for a dunk at the buzzer. I even thought they had mentioned that he was getting over an ankle injury? So I was expecting her to use her demon powers to cause him to break his ankle on the fast break. Nope, just an unexplained shower of sparks right in the guy's face out of nowhere. And everyone in the crowd just cheered, "YAY, HE MISSED THE DUNK! WE DIDN'T LOSE!" Completely ignoring the fact that something that can't explode exploded spectacularly in the guy's face at just the right time and hey maybe he's dead since his face may have blown off.

The rest of it may have been great, but that opening scene filled up my "Meh" meter.

Weird. I'll add it to my list of things to check out...although that's a long list.

This has been on my list for a while, since Alamo Drafthouse had been showing it this year...I just haven't gotten around to it.

I like a lot of weird shiz but that was just dumb. Maybe it got better, but I don't have enough free time anymore to sit through things that start out on a bad foot with me.

Watched "Hobo with a Shotgun" last night and actually found it fairly amusing given the parody/homage that it was...
