^pretty much what we all thought given it would be at least 2 years before filming could even start..so now we know they will also have 2 years to make the film. It's exciting and kinda crappy to have to wait that long.

I can barely wrap my head around what my own life will be like four years from now. Hard to even think about some movie sequel that far off.

Well, I just hope I'm around at that time for health reasons. At least we know there should be no complications due to lack of a director. He's bound to learn a few things for the better from his Star Wars stint that could carry over to Godzilla 2. It's a thought. He's gonna have his hands full in that one.

It's true, Godzilla's going to fight a famous French sculptor in the sequel.

I'm honestly amazed that people are even capable of being excited about Star Wars anymore.

If Gareth Wants to do Star Wars let him. I'd be fine with another director giving it a crack if it's going to be that long of a wait.

Here are my thoughts on the new release date.

Pros:
More than enough time to perfect the script, to have meaningful and well fleshed out characters and dialogue.
Redesign the monsters to make them realistic and grounded and at the same time respectful to their original designs, similar to what they did to Godzilla.

Cons:
The excruciating long waiting time for Godzilla 2.
If Godzilla 2 is 2018, so that means Godzilla 3 is 2022 ????

Was bringing back Edwards really that important that they had to wait for him to be done with Star Wars?

So now we get 2 years of speculation (with perhaps a sprinkle of info here and there) followed by 2 years of waiting for details to emerge. I'm impatient already.

Regarding the schedule, I'd rather see this happen in 2 years but more important is that they take their time to make the second film and that they take feedback from the first movie and learn from it. I'm over the slow burn film approach.

I've got 3 years of other movies to enjoy before Godzilla 2. As far as I am concerned this movie is an after thought until 2018.

Gamera 2015 (maybe) ; Skull Island 2016 ; Pacific Rim 2017

I've plenty to keep me busy until then.

Max Borenstein was brough in on the project in 2011, and there was already a draft script written when he joined the project. I can't imagine they are going to focus any additional time on this movie than beyond what they did for the first.

I'm just hoping LP and WB will add some new kaiju to the movies along with classics. It just stays fresh that way.

Of course I would love for this to be released in 2016... But Edwards wants to do something else first with WB/LP wanting him back. Gareth learned a lot with GODZILLA and will learn more working on this SW movie.

I think they should start the planning stages for both Godzilla 2 and Godzilla 3 at the same time. It would smooth out the pressures between the 2nd and 3rd films.

I think others have said it already in various ways:
"Afterthought"
"Not even on my radar"
"Backburner"
etc.

I can't care about a movie coming out four years from now...When the Marvel movies set for 2018 are "Untitled Marvel Studios film #1", "Untitled Marvel Studios film #2", and "Untitled Marvel Studios film #3", then speculating anything at all about Godzilla 2 is basically worthless for the next couple years.
