It's a marvel movie. All marvel movies get a tongue bath during their first week.

As far as personal preference, definitely. It's kind of like saying the fact that a forked tongue could work on a Godzilla, so why not include it?

The gills were not my favorite addition, but they also aren't even discussed in the film and they're just sort of there. I don't find them as distracting as some of the other changes.

Also, I'm not a fan of the exposed muscle or skin flap (whatever it is) on the sides of Godzilla's jaw. It's...just distracting. I also prefer the original charcoal black coloring...

But at some point I knew changes would be made for his design. Some I like and a lot I just don't. I think I'd be a lot happier if they slimmed him down some. This Godzilla is incredibly ferocious looking, but lacks that aesthetic charm that even some of the fiercer toho Godzillas had.

But overall, I'm happy with the movie we got and the fact that Godzilla was mostly well done. That's a win. And we have a sequel coming.

^ That's sort of what I hate about it. It makes Godzilla a little "too" dinosaurian for me.

Interesting. That first one looks like they spliced the DNA of a Millennium suit with the KKvG suit.

I like that first model. It's basically the GFW Godzilla with a rounder jaw and slightly thicker legs.

I'm not a fan of the second one. It looks like Radogoji with a Kiryugoji cobra frill, pretty much the worst elements of the Heisei and Millennium series rolled into one.

Which is funny because it's a combination of Godzilla designs until 1995...no Millennium influence. That being said, it's by Yuji Sakai who did create the maquette for Godzilla 2000.

I have to concur. The first image I like a lot. The second-- Well, I remember the mire-goji being criticized as "frogzilla" during the genesis of the Millennium series. That second image is far more worthy of the title.

Am I the only one who never noticed these soldiers on the rooftop here before:

Makes me curious about where this shot from the trailer would've fit in the end battle now:

^ I find it hard to sympathize with Showa series haters because I feel those are the same folks who've been content with two and a half decades of largely mediocre Godzilla movies.

It's no surprise that preferences usually rest with those films that introduced the viewer to Godzilla. I'm a Showa fan first and foremost because it's what I saw first but there are qualities that set the remaining series above those before them. The way I see it is if someone can find something to appreciate in one series, then it' shouldn't be to difficult to find something to appreciate in the others. Everyone has there favorites. You just have to understand why instead of bickering back and forth about the why not's and bashing the "non-preferential" stuff.

I saw all the Heisei films when I was 10 years old. When the world at large was concerned with GINO I was eating up all these new-to-me Japanese Godzilla films. I loved them. I watched 'em over and over.

I have the nostalgia, but I watch them as an adult and can hardly make my way through most of them. Meanwhile, I continue to find new things to enjoy about the Showa series, even among the ones I disliked as a child. They're superior films.

I'm kind of a flake. I love the world of the Showa films, but the Godzilla of the Heisei films.
