So I've slept on this...I think what this is, is a case of what Pacific Rim was for a lot of people last year. I had fun with it, but I'm not ready to call it the second-coming.
Unlike those people who didn't love Pacific Rim, though, I'm not going to be so cynical as to say it's not even a good movie or anything. It'll probably grow on me over time and worm its way into my heart (as I felt it doing at various times throughout its running time). I think the villain kinda sucks, and that'll hold it back from ever topping Avengers or Winter Soldier for me, but the heroes are introduced to us quite excellently, and I'll be there for future installments featuring these guys.
It's got some STARK similarities to Thor 2 that had me shaking my head and held it back a bit, I've got an issue with the score in that I felt it over-relied on the songs and didn't craft enough original composition of its own, and I thought Karen Gillan was god-awful (and also, seeing this movie was kind of an inconvenience for me, and I feel like I could and should have just waited a bit instead of rushing out and seeing it right before a trip up north with a 3-month-old baby), but Batitsta was better than I thought he'd be, Pratt has an endearing charisma, and of course the Rocket/Groot combo is great (I'm extremely lukewarm on Gamora, but then, she's played by Zoe Saldana so I'm not really surprised that she seems to lack personality), and Brolin as Thanos is an inspired bit of casting that's gonna ultimately pay off pretty well, I think.
If X-Men holds up for me, I think this will probably wind up somewhere around #6 or #7 on the year, which I think speaks to the quality of this year's movies...something that I think I'll ultimately end up really enjoying and rewatching a fair bit over the years is a #6 movie...
