I'd like to see Mothra portrayed like a real moth... where she's introduced as the cause of mass deforestation somewhere in the world (while she's a larva).

Oh, and can secrete some kind of toxin like tobacco hornworms:

And can emiit ultrasound to mess with radar, Rodan, etc.

Mothra doesn't need eye-lasers, twin fairies, or the ability to swim, just be a giant crazy-f*ck insect. That would make me so happy.

Minya.

I'd take about any other kaiju before I'd take Minya or a Godzilla spawn of any kind. Focus on Godzilla and the other monsters instead.

That would kinda kill the "last of his kind" angle. I agree.

Godzilla's offspring has appeared in every major franchise or series. It's going to happen eventually, as far as I am concerned.

Granted, the same could be said of Robin in the Batman series, and we were "mostly" spared that in Nolan's films.

Giving Godzilla a kid (while fun when I was a tyke) is fundamentally counter to the character. Really, part of his appeal is he's the ultimate loner. Not merely the last one of his species, but given his mutation, the only one of his species.

You know guys, it gets me bummed when folks on the internet talk smack about Mothra. You know, like: "I always hated that stupid butterfly" and "I never took Mothra as a serious threat to Godzilla."

Mothra is great.

I wonder if they feel threatened by the fact that Mothra consistently defeats Godzilla? It's kind of her deal.

The fact that Mothra appears so fragile and gets her but kicked for most of the film only to pull out the victory in the end is what makes us root for her. She's Toho's very own Gamera. I never understood the Mothra hate either.

Anyone care to speculate on the chances of a redesign or tweaking of Godzilla, whether explained in the new movie or not?

I personally believe that if Legendary is going to modify their design at all, it will be so subtle that the general audiences wouldn't even notice. Maybe some of us wouldn't even notice at first. You've got to believe that with the movie having gone public and receiving all kinds of criticism and feedback, they'll consider tweaks. Perhaps slightly longer spikes, or a smaller torso..

I'd be fine either way. Despite its couple flaws here or there, this design has grown on me, and ranks in my top 5. Just curious what you guys think.

I think it may have to do with whoever is hired in that department unless the previous designers weren't 100% happy with the first one.

I can easily see Legendary trimming Godzilla's bulk down a bit in a sequel, specifically that floppy belly.

Fun little speculative article. That said making the plural of kaiju, kaijus, grates against my eyes and ears.

It's like fingernails on a chalk board every time I see kaiju pluralized with an 'S'. And ever since PACIFIC RIM, there's the "No one ever called them kaiju before" contingent has kind of bugged me. I usually don't say anything in either case, as any time spent correcting people just isn't worth it.

I've been thinking that maybe in the future I'll just leave folks a link to Weird Al's "Word Crimes" [] and let them figure it out.

The author's pointing out of Legendary leaving off the "King" in King Ghidorah makes for interesting speculation. Will we not see a the original space monster then but some Earth based version instead? Was it just simple mistake (very likely)? Will it mean seeing some 4 legged version that's not actually King Ghidorah like Toho did in GFW?

I'm hoping Legendary delivers the original space monster King Ghidorah. It's been what 40 years since that version of KG appeared as an opponent in a Godzilla movie? I think the universe Legendary has set up for Godzilla in this new movie already sets the potential stage for daikaiju to appear from somewhere in outer space, I hope they take advantage of it and not just make KG another ancient Earth kaiju.

I think the King was dropped from KG because he goes by both. His first film wasn't King Ghidrah the Three headed Monster. And people who say they weren't called Kaiju until recently are morons.

I think it was established in the first film who the REAL king is. As far as the "king of what?" question goes with Ghidorah, that's a good question.

We could still see maybe a one -off new monster show up and get eliminated early on. To be honest, Dagarah would be cool to show up in some form or another.

I actually kinda hope this film is titled "Godzilla 2" and they can tack on a subtitle if they want.

I doubt it will be...most sequel titles these days are just subtitles, but we've yet to have a Godzilla 2 in the history of the franchise. Ironically, the "easy" title would be the more fresh one for this series.

I kinda like the idea of not having to have 'Godzilla' in the title (Destroy All Monsters, Monster Zero, All Monsters Attack), but I doubt they'll do that because of branding.
