Also don't forget, stuff like Straithairn's jump speech were cut. I'm sure his part was a bit meatier in the script.

Personally, I found the MUTO's(still not fond of that name)to be the weak point of the movie, especially considering they were meant to be the "villain" of the film. To Godzilla, they are a threat. To mankind, they are no more of a threat than Godzilla himself. And if you're counter is, "Well, they plan to infest the world",(which was GINO'S main threat; guess they not only appropriated traits from the Japanese Godzilla for the MUTO's, they took some from '98 as well :P )I don't buy that as I don't believe there is enough radioactive material available to support a large population. And on that point,(and I have the same feeling about Godzilla on this), wouldn't there be a rather large segment of the population that would welcome a reason for us to have to abandon nuclear power? And as far as the nuclear issue, what was the reason for the female to leave Yucca Mountain in the first place? If she wanted an abundant food source for her young, I think she was in a pretty good spot to begin with. And seeing as the two were communicating, the male could have easily made his way to her location. Seems like the whole point was just to get them to a major metropolis so they could smash stuff up real good. And as to the "EMP defensive weapon", while it seems cool in the context of the film, if you think about it, it would be pretty pointless against anything not electrical in nature. This point could have easily been addressed with some mention of how this weapon/attack had a detrimental effect on any lifeform in the area, making the MUTO more of an immediate threat, but thanks to(what I consider)uninspired writing, we're left with a "just don't think about it" scenario. So, to sum up, I've heard the saying that a film is only as good as it's villain, and in this case, to me, anyway, the MUTO's were lacking. Still liked the film(hell, I saw it 8 times  ), but it could have easily been MUCH better....

There's a big difference between "striking back" and "walking away, but there's a bridge there."

When I first heard of the MUTOs, I thought they were the appetizer to the main course that was Godzilla. Cannon fodder to emphasize his destructive power. As is, they just don't have the appeal to carry the movie and serve as a believable threat to Godzilla.

I love some of their characteristics, (the EMP blast was brilliant, and a perfect foil for the military). But the characters themselves were lacking. Maybe it was their design?

There is a tremendous gulf of difference between how G54 and G14 treated the military (and bridges, for that matter) and trying to pretend otherwise is intellectually dishonest.

Godzilla looks like he is turning and running away from the explosions more than he looks like he's lashing out.

He's hitting school buses not tanks.

He's not deliberately targeting the tanks. He's not "striking back." He's just walking away, because this Godzilla ignores humanity and treats us like ants, remember? ;)

Besides, if Godzilla was shown on screen trashing tanks, the DoD liaison would be vewy upset.

He's pretty obviously swiping at them in that shot.

Are the fire ants where you live invisible?

Look man. I saw the movie. Six times. I remember that scene past that gif. That tank in the foreground? We never see a thing happen to it. Godzilla doesn't give a "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" about it, because if Godzilla smashes the fire ants in this movie, he's killing American soldiers and God forbid we show that. He's pivoting his body to plow through the bridge. His arm wouldnt even reach the damn tank from that angle anyway.

The fact that he doesn't make contact with them is not the point; he didn't actually hit any of the jets he swiped at in G'54 either. Military casualties are not my point. My point is that he's lashing out in response to being shot at and not letting it stop him, as opposed to dropping his priorities and retreating like GINO. I can sincerely say I don't believe Godzilla swipes those school buses because he's targeting them specifically, as hilariously awesome as that would be.

Good, so we agree that Godzilla isn't striking back at the military. Glad we finally see eye to eye.

He sure as hell burned down some tanks and trucks in G54 though. And if you honestly expect me to take the "he missed" claim seriously, then you're barking up the wrong bridge.
