It's pretty ballsy of Marvel to announce a Guardians sequel already. Its their most untested franchise and could easily backfire given how out there it is.

It's definitely ballsy, but given the 100% Rotten Tomatoes count so far (only 25 reviews so far, but still... ), and the 99% audience interest, there would have to be an implosion of galactic proportions for this film to not rake in enough bucks to finance a sequel. I'm sure Marvel already has a fairly solid plot for it and with Gunn on board to helm it, it seems a pretty safe bet. Marvel seems to improve and get a better grasp and footing within the industry with each succesive film they release. I was mildly interested in this film when I first heard of it only because I recall the introduction of Rocket Raccoon in the 20th anniversary issue of The Incredible Hulk. The fact that Marvel would have the stones to make a space opera with 5th string characters and feature something as out-there as Rocket Raccoon gave me hope that perhaps all IS right with the world. the trailers and everything I've read so far just confirm that this will be another out of the park for Marvel. Meanwhile the clueless nitwits within Warner & DC still struggle to find a way just to figure how to make a decent Wonder Woman film??? Egads. They'll be playing catch-up for the next 15 years. And that's IF their Supes/Bats face-off cum Justice League intro film doesn't fall flat on its can. :D

Marvel's marketing on this film has been pretty genius so far, imho. They've slapped the "Marvel" thing on it as prominently as possible. That brand is worth something now. DC should be taking notes. Instead they seem to think, "Batman is popular...MAKE EVERYTHING BATMAN!"

Just got back from seeing it. It's really, really, really freaking good. Definitely another top-tier Marvel movie, no question. It's crazy how confident this movie is in itself given how risky a proposition it was and how easily this could have all backfired. It's crazy good. And it's very easy to see why Marvel felt so confident in it to announce a sequel before this was even out yet. It's sooooooooo good! Just such a fun, exciting, heartfelt, funny, thoroughly entertaining, wonderful film. I loved it.

It deserves every penny. I'm so glad we've already got confirmation on not only a sequel, but on James Gunn returning to write and direct it. He really did a stellar job with this film, so I'm extremely pleased he'll be back for the next one as well.

There are a dozen or so negative reviews over at RottenTomatoes now, out of 120+/-. A few seem genuine and the person simply didn't like the film for what it was. However, it's pretty telling that the vast majority of these negative write-ups preface their review with a sentence or even an entire paragraph that goes something like "Here comes ANOTHER comic book movie" or "Here's yet ANOTHER Marvel film" or "Marvel/comic book movies are on their last leg and here's proof..." blah blah blah.

If you go into a film expecting to hate it... guess what? Pretty good chance you're going to hate it. IF you don't like comic book films, then why bother doing a review, unless you enjoy being a flame-baiting jerkoff. It's like having a beer-drinking, NASCAR-luvin' hardcore redneck guy reviewing chick flicks. Chances are he's going to think they're all stupid and pointless. Crtique out bad acting, poor effects, gaping plot holes or lapses in logic or whatnot, but don't trash and entire genre from the get-go and expect to be taken seriously. They essentially invalidate their entire review by doing that. And honestly, if you really hate this kind of stuff then save yourself from another ulcer or headache and DON'T GO SEE IT!!! SHEESH!!!!!!!!

Sorry to rant, but these self-important, overbearing killjoys really... annoy me.

Movie of the year for me? Its very likely. I was blown away. It would be VERY easy for me to call this my favorite Marvel film, but I'll have to let it marinade for a bit.

I'll say it. My favorite Marvel Movie. And I don't think thats going to change over time. I'm pretty good at gauging my initial hype factor and haven't slid much on my film rankings over the years. As good as Cap 2 was this movie is more fun.

Not a huge spoiler but I really like the fact that

This film blows Thor-2 out of the water. IM2 and IM3 are not in the same league. Of course I went in with curious expectations. Not to say if you go in expecting a great film you still won't be blown away. Had the Star Wars prequel trilogy been directed this well as opposed to the cringe worthy Anakin Padme love scenes in Ep 2, or JarJar Binks (which Groot, Rocket, and Chewbacca for that matter, are 1000x>>) I don't think any significant number of people would have been disappointed, in spite of SW fans lofty expectations). Also friends who were fans of the comics thought Rocket would have to carry the film, but Quill has more than enough personality in this to manage to be one of if not the most likable character's in this film, and I'm usually bored by the humans in space films.

Anyway go do yourselves a favor and enjoy if you haven't already, a film that doesn't take itself too seriously, but can more than hold its own weight while taking some huge risks . I had talked with Bautista's rep last year who said he'd inked a deal for 7 films, and I have to say if they throw them in cameos, Avengers 3, and 2-4 more of these I will not have found they've overstayed their welcome.

If Guardians of the Galaxy plays out like the other big openers this year, at worst it could have a Friday-to-Saturday drop on par with Transformers 4 and a Saturday-Sunday drop in line with Captain America 2, bringing it to $86 million for the weekend, about the same as Thor 2 last fall. At best it could have a Spider-Man Fri-Sat drop and an X-Men Sat-Sun drop for a total of over $105 million, the biggest opening weekend of the year. If it plays out just like Godzilla, which has the median for both day-to-day drops, it will earn $91 million.

I'm seeing it tonight.

I don't know if I can properly express how much I enjoyed this movie... it's funny, quirky, pulpy, confident, adventurous. The movie is populated by outlandish alien characters but has the biggest human heart imaginable. The theatre was packed and people loved it, cheering and laughing at all the right moments.

I'll have to see it again but at the moment Guardians of the Galaxy is without a doubt my favorite MCU installment... as an ensemble piece I found it way more satisfying than The Avengers, which had individual movies to set it up.

If you want to see a movie about a bunch of comic heroes you have never heard of before, this is the movie for you and it is down right fantastic. The movie is just so fun and action packed with some great character development that is definitely one of the best movies of the year. It isn't as deep as Dawn of the Planet of the Apes or as original as The Grand Budapest Hotel, but this movie does Star Wars better than most Star Wars. It also does a great job of building the Marvel universe as a whole rather than just the universe on Earth. There is a scene after the credits, so do not leave as it is hilarious. Of course, it is a Marvel movie, so you already know the rules of the credits. The actors are all fantastic and you would never know how badass a raccoon could be until this movie. Overall, I give it a nice 8/10 stars as it is better than Avengers and about the same length as Captain America 2.

Best MCU film for me. Such fun. I am way more excited for GOTG2 than Age of Ultron at this point. Just as good the 2nd time as well.

Loved every single second of the movie. So many great lines. And Lloyd freaking Kaufman had a cameo!

Although this did seem like the cudest Marvel movie, it was pushing that PG-13 rating a bit more than most. I'm fine with that but if mom and pop movie goer thinks this will be another rousing adventure from the Marvel comic books like that Avengers film, they might be a wee bit shocked.

then again this movie's raking in metric tons of cash, so who gives a crap if mom and pop movie goer are shocked at what a CGI rodent with a very huge weapon says.

This movie was pure fun. I loved every single minute of it. It was everything I was hoping it to be. I'm still laughing as I think about moments from it. Yondu's shelf, Rocket's 5 seconds, Drax's YESSS! When Starlord picks up the space-rat at the beginning and uses it as a microphone the mood is set and the movie follows suit perfectly. Captain America 2 was an excellent super hero movie, but this was certainly more fun.

I AM GROOT!

Edit: And the Marvel nerd in me completely geeked out when My brother was disappointed that , but I love that this movie set up the possibility for that to happen now.
