Ebirahsmeg1 has a point. Either you like the score or you don't regardless of comparisons. The score was not good. I can't for the life of me remember a single note from it except for the tuba. Try humming to a tuba if you can.

Desplat's score is one of the last things you could possibly criticize about Godzilla 2014. If you want crummy scores to recent big movies both Amazing Spider-Man flicks have headache-inducing soundtracks.

SpaceGodzilla actually has some really fantastic music, it was just written for the wrong movie... Godzilla 2000 has a similar issue.

Just thought I'd share this fan fiction with everyone. It's basically a retelling of Legendary's Godzilla that keeps most of the movie intact but adds a number of details and changes that would've vastly improved the movie, especially the human characters. A really good read:

Godzilla 2000's original score might be the worst in the entire series.

I just read Godzilla: Awakening and really enjoyed it, despite the chronology being totally off (I suppose Serizawa was originally intended to be played by a much older man).

Neither the original, nor the new film state definitively whether Godzilla's ability to breathe fire is innate or a by-product of his exposure to atomic bombs.

The other thing to consider is that there is ambiguity in both the original origin and the origin in G14. We don't know all the details. The Heisei series tweaks this into Godzilla being a dinosaur that is irradiated, but that was not the original origin in 54.

Plus, if you really want to look at it - Godzilla is explained on the island as a sea monster, a sort of god that they sacrificed to. Unless thats only in KoTM. I can't for the life of me remember if that explanation by the old man is the same in the Japanese version or not.

This issue is not necessarily Godzilla's background as a creature. We are debating the word 'origin' at this point which is insane.

The issue is the action that causes Godzilla to enter the modern setting.

In Gojira that issue is atomic testing. Strontium 90 is detected on Godzilla and his footprints are highly radioactive.

In Godzilla 2014 that event is a nuclear submarine exploring a trench. Godzilla vaguely 'eats' radiation but it is NOT the focus of his character.

Some people, including myself, feel that diminishes the character of Godzilla. It really is that simple.
