I wonder what their origin(s) will be. Like, where will they come from, will all three be earth monsters? Will Mothra still have that supernatural element to her? Will Ghidorah come from space? Will they do something completely new and unexpected with them?

I still say if the Shobijin aren't in it and don't at least sing once, they shouldn't bother with Mothra.

Borenstein mentioned in "Awakening" that Godzilla and the other monsters originated from the Permian Age, maybe Ghidorah arrived on earth back then and caused the mass extinction seen at the end. That could also be a good way of having Mothra (and the fairies if they're in it) know about the monster when it comes back.

Ghidorah comes to earth and causes the extinction of dinosaurs, then goes into a deep slumber. Awakens to do the same to humanity... Godzilla restores balance. Rodan is Godzillas buddy... Not sure how to explain Mothra really. I hope they have some other new monsters in here again too.

I just hope some sort of spiritual connection can be made to the Mothra character. It's such a big part of Mothra. The recent (wonderful) comic book Godzilla: Half Century War featured no real origin for the creature, but has hippies who were devoted to Mothra. Maybe that's the answer? Mothra shows up in larval form and is a peaceful beast, and soon becomes a kind of celebrated pop culture figure, with quasi-religious followers and pilgrims coming to where Mothra shows up. There are songs about Mothra and music videos. T-shirts, bumper stickers everywhere... of course, later Mothra emerges from a cocoon as much more fearsome creature compared to the slow, nonthreatening one that people had become used to!

Maybe the 'faries' can be this movie's version of Princess Salno in GTTHM, people who's past racial memories become activated by Ghidorah showing up.

They could leave Mothra's connection ambiguous; the priestesses would say that it's a spiritual one, whereas someone like Serizawa might suggest it's more like how some insects "enslave" other species to work for them. In Mothra's case either through pheromones or some form of hypnotic signals, but you wouldn't get a definite answer either way.

I just read the more recent tweet from Legendary. They state that these monsters will be used in future installments. So maybe we won't see all 3 in Godzilla 2?

I hope not. We hardly got to know Godzilla as it is. Too many monsters at once and we'll just have a mess of barely-developed monster characters.

I dunno, its worked for movies like GMK. And someone could easily watch a movie like Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster without having seen the prior films that featured Mothra and Rodan.

That would have been VERY stupid to show three monsters while talking about Godzilla 2, only to not feature them in the next movie. I'm pretty sure we'll be getting all three. That would be like if they showed Bane and Catwoman when they announced the Joker for the Dark Knight. It doesn't make sense. I think we'll get all three, with the prospect of one or more returning for a third film.

My only fear is that they'll stray away from the tone of the first film, and get more light and comedic, kind of like Pacific Rim(which I didn't think was all that good).

Eh, I don't see that happening.

One thing is for sure, and that's that we have PLENTY of time for speculation. Edwards' Star Wars isn't coming out until 2016, so I'd wager a 2018 release for Godzilla 2 is in the cards. It'll be at least 4 years. I'm fine with that, but we know how this fandom gets.

However, that does promise a giant monster movie every year for the next several years... all from the fine folks at Legendary.

2015: Jurassic World
2016: Skull Island
2017: Pacific Rim 2
2018: Godzilla 2 (??)

I think a space monster ghidorah would work, so long as you're not throwing in the people from planet X and "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!". If they go with the Rebirth of Mothra type, "acient creature from space that drove the dinosaurs extinct" type, or even just the GTTHM origin of the meteorite that contains him, then that would be awesome! Just no stupid aliens... PLEASE! Especially ones in trench coats, who have stupid haircuts, creepy smiles, and terrible acting.

The one character I'm worried about is Mothra. I really really really think she's the one that'll need the most work done. I don't want to see a fluffly, friendly, rainbow colored looking bug with two stupid singing fairies. Keep the basic idea, change it up a bit, give us something that looks like Mothra, but fits the tone. Godzilla vs. Mothra is my favorite G film, but that does NOT work here.

Personally, I've never been TOO crazy about Ghidorah's Showa "chirp". BUUUUUUT seeing what they did with Godzilla's roar, I am confident that they can give us an awesome modern take on it.

On a side note: This movie needs to hurry up and release on DVD. I keep finding myself watching clips of him shooting his atomic breath online, and roaring. It's so "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" epic that it makes me want to punch a wall.

They could easily mix the Showa cackle with the Heisei roar or something to that effect.
