Ok, I'm going to toss this out here to see who else would like to see this. I was looking through the synopsis for the upcoming episodes of Beware the Batman and I saw that they were doing an episode with the Paul Kirk version of Manhunter. To say I geeked on reading that would be an understatement. Archie Goodwins Manhunter Saga has been one of my favorite stories in comics since it first came out forty years ago, it easily stays in my top 3. But the character has not been seen in any of the animated series, in part because Archie and co-creator Walt Simonson were adamant that Paul KIrk was dead and wasn't going to be resurrected, again. And DC has been (amazingly given the track record on dead heroes) true to their wishes.
But now I wonder how great an animated film that story would make. Yes, Batman does appear at the end, but the story of resurrection, betrayal, vengeance, and redemption that flows through the story would still work well if done right today. And retelling it in a video form wouldn't violate the late great Mr. Goodwins wishes. I know the odds of it ever happening are really long, it's an old character that many, even among comics fans aren't aware of. But a great story like this one could make a fantastic film.
Any thoughts?
