Furthermore, Batman Begins was not the story of how Ras Al Ghul became a master ninja and attacked Gotham City, until Batman suddenly showed up fully suited an hour into the film to stop him.

UGH. The "scene from Godzilla 2014 with Ifukube music" YouTube videos have begun...

I thought the score in Godzilla was unmemorable, but ugh...

I actually enjoyed the soundtrack for Godzilla, it fit the movie extremely well. I've also seen some of the fan videos on youtube, and think that the Ifukube's music is really out of place with the new film. Just doesn't fit at all.

As far as the soundtrack being unmemorable, I do agree. While it's good music, it's nothing that people will remember. I also think the same can be said for the music in the Dark Knight trilogy, especially for Batman Begins. While I thought the music for the trilogy was very good, it's nothing will make me personally remember it too much.

On the other hand, Danny Elfman's score for the original Batman was amazing and many people always remember. Sometimes my wife and I go to symphony concerts at my university and every now and then Elfman's Batman score is played. Love it every time that happens! :D I think it would've been incredible if they had Elfman score Godzilla instead of Desplat, but that's okay it is what it is.

I hope for Godzilla 2 Desplat steps up and creates something amazing and memorable, otherwise I just hope they replace him. There are plenty of amazing composers out there.

450 minutes of Transformers movies features 19 minutes of robot combat.

We all know how unpopular those movies are... :?

Let me know when you plan on actually engaging with the argument you're trying to make, instead of tossing out flawed comparisons and hoping they'll stick.

It's just painfully obvious that the lack of screen time and/or treatment of Godzilla aren't the issues here. Godzilla's basically exactly the same here as he is in Godzilla vs. Gigan or Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla...he just shows up at the end to deal with the menace which has been the focus throughout the course of the film. He gets as much screen time as, if not more than, a decent amount of kaiju films (not just Godzilla).

Godzilla isn't the problem in Godzilla. At all.

But those movies are sequels to other Godzilla movies. They are the 12th and 14th movies in a series. The title indicates that Godzilla is going to be sharing the focus with another monster.

G'14 was supposed to be a complete restart of the franchise, introducing or re-introducing Godzilla to millions of people. The fact that they decided to focus so little on Godzilla (a problem that goes beyond simply a lack of screentime and trends into "this movie isn't really even about him" territory), seems like a critical misfire. Although we as Godzilla fans may be able to process the "Terror of Mechagodzilla" model of Godzilla screentime and plot relevance, general audiences probably aren't, and just because we, as fans, may be able to understand that method doesn't necessarily mean that all of us wanted to see that, or that it was the best way to do what is ostensibly a Godzilla origin story.

And nobody would care AT ALL if the human story were engaging and interesting with a charismatic lead in a well-written role.

While that may be true, I think it's also a valid argument to say that a lot of the failings of the plotting and writing could have been forgiven if Godzilla was a more central focus, instead of the plot primarily being "Ford Brody and the MUTOs take a Road Trip, Guest-Starring Godzilla."
