I totally checked out of this scene because I remembered this interview. He also looks a little too human in his expression.

I saw nothing contrary to Godzilla's character including his momentary contact with Brody. Even if it was the first time for interaction with a human which it wasn't wouldn't make it out of place.

You do realize a 25ft high statue is supposed to be at comic-con this year as well.....

Evidently, all the Gojira/Godzilla stuff that happens in the movie was solely due to Ken Watanabe's refusal to say the word "Godzilla"

It certainly made for a confusing set of circumstances, though, since even Watanabe seems to be waffling on his pronunciation later in the movie.

^He says it closer to 'Godzilla' when he's talking to army folks who are already calling him that.

... and good for Watanabe. It was a great touch in the film, and it's amazing to hear it wasn't intended.

But..."Godzilla" is a pretty close translation of "Gojira" in the first place, and existed as a Toho-sanctioned name from the very beginning, long before "Godzilla, King of the Monsters" was ever a reality. Sooo...this whole thing comes across as pretty brainless.

Gojira is definitely not pronounced as Go-jeeeerrrrrrrrrrr-aaaaaah in the American accent.
