Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - The Planet of the Apes franchise is one that is a mixed bag. There are some incredible movies in the series, but there are also a few major stinkers in the mixed. Nevertheless, Rise was a really movie in the series, the best since the original, and this one is even better than Rise. The movie has a great plot and there is a lot of character development for the apes, especially Ceasar. Gary Oldman was good in it, but he was pretty much just reprising his role as Commissioner Gordon instead of doing anything new. The action scenes are great but there is a moment where the CGI takes a dip in quality as you can clearly tell the fire behind them was green screened. Aside from that, this movie is one of those times when CGI is used intelligently instead of being there just for the sake of being there. There is nothing after the credits, so no need to stay. Overall, I give it an 8/10.

There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

Still $70 mil less than Bayformers. So yep, people would rather watch retards on screen than an intelligent movie.

Best movie of the year thus far. I'll expand more later but I was really blown away. I feel like at this point I look forward to at least two more films...

Great movie, saw it at 4:30 this past Friday. Very solid. I liked that the Apes still were not acting “too human” and the cries and shrieks you could here in through the sound system in the theater gave it a realistic feel. Sometimes you would swear that was no CGI especially with Maurice the orangutan. Also they were signing I think to communicate with only a few speaking English.

It was fantastic! Great underlying tension throughout the whole film.

It nearly killed my friend who I saw it with. Said it was one of the few "perfect" movies and it's one of his top favorite movies of all time.

So glad Matt Reeves is sticking with the series, he's done a great job in this world and I can NOT wait to see where he takes it.

I have to agree. "Dawn" was better than "Godzilla" but not by that much.

I thought it was much better than Godzilla, but I've liked quite a few movies this year better than Godzilla.

So I finally had the chance to catch this. I really liked it, but it wasn't perfect. In fact, I think it kinda fell apart in the third act. I'd have much rather seen . I really enjoyed the majority of he movie. I loved seeing the ape society forming and going through all the drama and turmoil of something like Rome. I mean geez, they even named the leader of the society Caesar and his arc kinda follows that of Julius in a way... I just wish they'd had the guts to go all the way with it.

^I think the Caesar thing could POTENTIALLY be more interesting the way it is...because a lot of what's happened now is Caesar basically becoming very much a general, which he never wanted to be.

btw for anyone interested:
MouthForWar and I (along with our podcast co-hosts) did an entire Apes episode, where we delve into the original series, the new series, the book, comics, various unmade projects, and even the Tim Burton catastrophe.

Just got back from Dawn. Saw it free with the coupon I got from buying the Blu-Ray set of the original series.

I wish I could go back and time and tell some kid who walked out of Battle For the Planet of the Apes all disappointed that if he waits 40 years they'll make up for it with a totally awesome remake.
