Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the character shields were at their fullest here. Dallas shoots an Alien head off right above him and is not hit with a single drop of blood. In fact, it seemed like they forgot the alien blood was acidic when it was most convenient.

I still prefer it over AvP. And I have defense other than I like what I like it. It's my stupidest, guilty pleasure movie I guess.

The PredAlien doesn't make sense. How can it suddenly impregnate women to have chest burster babies? Does a Predator have that ability? There should be no reason for it to happen when the Xenomorphs only take the features of their host, not take on brand new abilities out of the blue.

Speaking of Alien stuff, I have spent the last few weeks also watching the bonus features on all of the movies and Prometheus and my god, there is so much awesomeness I learned (such as everything was an actual set in Prometheus, some of the Queen fight with the Loader were actually miniatures, etc) along with how much dbaggery went on during the filming of Alien 3 to the pompous attitude of the director from Resurrection.

Oh yeah, and:

The Killing - Aside from the fact that I think this movie should have been called The Mumbling, since that is what a lot of the characters seemed to do, this was fantastic. In fact, I felt like I was watching a Tarantino movie at times because of the way the story was told. It was incredible and right up there with the likes of Touch of Evil, Double Indemnity, and The Maltese Falcon. The story was incredibly told with excellent pacing and the characters were all interesting, even if some of them were under developed. Overall, I give this movie a nice 8/10 and that ending... wow... talk about depressing.

Road to Zanzibar

Some unfortunate racial stereotypes interfere with my enjoyment of what is in other respects a superior and very fun second entry in the Bob Hope/Bing Crosby Road series.

Snowpiercer - All around a good film. There's some bits in it that are a little odd and goofy, but I enjoyed the strangeness at times. Almost kind of wish it ended two minutes before it actually did. But it has a great sense of style, it had a nice roaring 20's vibe to the high class sections that was neat.

I got dragged to Rifftrax Live Sharknado. No, the Rifftrax was fantastic, but it was Sharknado. I give the movie a 1/10.

The riffing was definitely great. The movie, not so much, but I found it does have its moment. Granted, this was my first time seeing it in any capacity, so the hilarity of Rifftrax may have skewed my perception somewhat.

Yeah, "Sharknado" was bad, but a fun bad, and Rifftrax made the most of it. And there's no such thing as too many Tara Reid jokes.

Did anyone else notice that we got a double dose of Dr. Nick Tatopolous last night?

I loved the card sequences that were playing before the movie started.

Movie Mistakes: Megan Fox as April O'Neil (although it should have just read Megan Fox)

Spoilers: The climatic battle of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes has the Simian Army fighting their deadliest foe: The Man with the Yellow Hat

Quote: "I have a certain set of skills that... you know what, nevermind, just keep her." - Taken 3

Anagrams: Trnsafomrers4 = Why, why do you keep doing this to us?

Movie Mistakes: Only two movies released this summer were not about super heroes and were original stories.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - The Planet of the Apes franchise is one that is a mixed bag. There are some incredible movies in the series, but there are also a few major stinkers in the mixed. Nevertheless, Rise was a really movie in the series, the best since the original, and this one is even better than Rise. The movie has a great plot and there is a lot of character development for the apes, especially Ceasar. Gary Oldman was good in it, but he was pretty much just reprising his role as Commissioner Gordon instead of doing anything new. The action scenes are great but there is a moment where the CGI takes a dip in quality as you can clearly tell the fire behind them was green screened. Aside from that, this movie is one of those times when CGI is used intelligently instead of being there just for the sake of being there. There is nothing after the credits, so no need to stay. Overall, I give it an 8/10.

We spent the day watching Asylum (American Horror Story Season 2). The first five episodes were rough to sit through, but the show did get better afterwards. Unfortunately, it felt like they were just cramming every single Sci-Fi and horror concept into this thing to pad out the timing rather than focus on one point. The alien and demon plots were so convoluted and took away from the Bloody Face storyline, especially because they served no purpose to that plot, which was obviously supposed to be the purpose of the season. It also lacked some of the great cinematography that made Murder House so great and the interesting characters of Coven. I thought Ian MacShane's character was going to be as memorable as Coven's Axe Man, but he wasn't. Overall, I give it a 6/10. It is by far the weakest of the three seasons.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

In some ways a superior movie to the first, but it also lacks the fun the period setting and over-the-top villains brought to that the first one. Also, I just think Captain America works better in WWII. The unquestionable highlight of this film: The Falcon! He's great. I'd be down for a film centered on him, or at least an expanded role in CA3.

Tales from the Crypt (1972) - It was decent. It was interesting getting to see a different take on some of the stories that were adapted in the HBO show and seeing two stories I was not at all familiar with. THey had some good moments to them, but overall, I just did not care for this movie's Cryptkeeper. He felt nothing like the one from the comics and of course, growing up on the HBO show, he was not even remotely as cool as that. I think my main problem was, he had no sense of humor or anything. The twist at the end was unexpected though, which was good. Curious to watch The Vault of Horror now. Overall, I give it a 7/10.

^I'd love it if the inevitable reboot of Tales From the Crypt kept the EC Comic's conceit of the three different hosts (Cryptkeeper, Vaultkeeper, and The Old Witch) who are constantly trying to out-do and throw shade on each other.

My favorite story is the one about the dude whose dog eats him. That little story had been stuck in my mind for years, from when I saw it as a kid, but I'd forgotten completely what movie it came from. Fast forward to I think last year or two years ago when I watched this movie on a lark and I was just DELIGHTED when I saw that part.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre - We saw this just a little while ago at the Alamo Drafthouse. It was my first time seeing it ever and I'm honestly not sure what I think about it right now. It had some great moments in it. It was far different than the remake. However, I don't really feel like I was able to connect with any of the characters as they were just there to die. I appreciate what the movie did for those to follow, but I'm not sure I understand where all of the amazing love for this movie comes from. Now to be fair, I felt the same way with the original Halloween when I first saw it two years ago and now I absolutely love that movie, so it might just be that I need to think on it over time. As of right now though, I cannot say I was blown away. I am glad to have finally seen it, and there were some really good moments of suspense, but I feel like I missed something. Overall, I give it a 7/10 stars.
