well an unpainted test shot in dark colors is going to look rancid one way or the other. It does look like we'll get some good range of motion here. I really want to replicate the roar from the end of the movie, and I can too! I got 1/700 scale F-35s and it should be easy to replicate with those buildings the effects parts come with.

So Battra has a great sculpt, but I really hate the way they did his legs. On the other hand, I prefer his wings because you can fully flap them up and down unlike Mothra's whose wings can be flapped upward, but they don't go down any lower than the line of her body. I wish they had done her wings in the same manner.

I don't think Battra's legs are as good as Mothra's, but I like the range of motion they can get. A really good "face scratch" or "strangle" type of pose.

The design is still 10x better than the AvP Warrior though. I'll hold off on the Big Chap then and see if they do a re-release with issue fixes (sore of but not completely like the Wolf Predator with more accessories they're coming out with). I can deal with the clear dome, but would prefer it to be a bite more opaque.

I still think they used some lighting trickery to make the dome seem darker in that photo though, there's more black with some blue color to it while the other just looks bright and white.

I have the prototype and the mass produced one- the dome is cloudy opaque on the prototype.

well not to distract from the current discussion about Big Chap, but was wondering why it is taking Tamashii so long to introduce a Gamera. Gamera would not be as expensive to tool. There would be nothing in the main body to articulate being that it is a shell. There would be fewer areas to articulate. The head to neck and opening/closing mouth is simple. The arms only get to swivel a bit and come out and around with additional hand and elbow movement. Then the legs move forward and back with bending at the knee and perhaps pivoting feet. Lastly a short tail. Not anywhere near as long as Goji's and only a few points in it to articulate. They would have to make a breath effect accessory though. If they do Gamera III, they would/should have a changeable arm for the Plasma regeneration look after battling Iris. It would be simple to do Gamera. Nothing too complex, yet they haven't jumped on it yet. Gamera should also be much cheaper having less articulation tooling to do.

I think Bandai probably thinks that a Gamera figure is not a high priority right now. Despite the critical acclaim that the Heisei Gamera films garnered the merchandise for those films and the recent Revoltech releases don't seem to have sold too well. Revoltech released the Gamera 95, Gyaos 95, Gamera 96 and Legion Revoltechs about 2-3 years ago. By all accounts it took a while to sell those figures. Many of them were overstocked and never too popular with retailers so I've seen. Gamera has been out of the limelight for many years and with the box office failure of Gamera the Brave back in 2006 I think Bandai would probably think twice before making a Gamera figure or two for the MonsterArts line. Heck even with the immense popularity of the Evangelion anime they seem hesitant to release the Angels. I've been dying to get my hands on that articulated version of Sachiel, my namesake. Nothing's come out of those prototype reveals from two years ago.

Licensing issues are the Number 1 culprit to delayed figures or adding new franchises. However, last I heard in an office visit was that they're not sure Gamera is a strategic property like Godzilla is. I'm not confirming it's not happening or that it is, but it seems they're hesitant, licensing issues aside.

Here's the real kicker with Pacific Rim. NECA has the license for North America outlets shutting out Bluefin Distribution, unless Legendary and co decide to alter NECA's contract whatever that may be OR let NECA's contract run through it's course. I don't think this could stop Tamashii Nations from creating figures of these and only selling them in Japan though. That is to say if the Japanese would want them. Bluefin knows people want figures of these guys, and they are looking to branch out into more Western properties in the future. The issue at hand though is who has exclusive rights to these characters (a lot of companies do with the bigger franchises), can Tamashii Nations distribute both in Japan & America, and for some franchises, is it really worth mowing through countless sub-companies to get the rights to these characters for American distribution? Alien & Predator were easy- both are owned by FOX and the merchandise rights aren't exclusive to anyone around the globe so we get multiple brands attached like NECA, KENNER, HOT TOYS, SIDESHOW, S.H.MonsterArts, and etc.

In regards to Sun God's Monsterarts prototype; I keep hearing Koichi Kawakita has some pull in Bandai.

Dunno if its true or not, but I hear it all the time.
