Jim Henson’s Creature Shop Challenge

Postby klen7 » Wed Oct 09, 2013 9:44 am

Since BSG finished its run a few years back, the only show that has had me consistently coming back to the SciFi (SyFy... ugh) channel has been Face-Off, which oddly enough is a reality game show about doing creature effects make-up. The show has even completely drawn Mrs Klen7, who is not a huge fan of creature features like I am... anyway, I guess they have had a bit of success with it, so they are hitting up another thing i love, Henson creatures, with a new series called "Jim Henson’s Creature Shop Challenge"

Part of me is really excited for this due to the Face-Off and Henson factors... the other side of me is reminded that SyFy's last two reality programs have been "Heroes of Cosplay" and "Fangasm" (ughhhh and uggh).. Fingers crossed.

Face-Off and Being Human are the only things I watch on scifi, but this seems neat.

I actually know a guy that was a contestant on faceoff. He didn't win. :(

He did the awesome dragon... And got a terrible partner for the first challenge. There was a lot of good talent that season.

I watched the premiere. Typically I don't watch any type of reality shows at all. But couldn't pass this up. I enjoyed seeing all the creativity and problem solving. Not crazy about the BS drama part of it.

I finally caught up and watched this show all the way through. Although there were moments when I would have liked to see more of the creative/construction processes, I was nevertheless delighted with what they fit into 30-minute segments. It's fascinating looking at the steps involved in bringing a brand new creature to live on screen.

The only downside is, now my appetite has been wet for more practical effects. Well, I guess I should watch Farscape soon.

I really like Face/Off and i liked this a lot too, but unlike Face/Off i really dreaded the eliminations, i wanted everyone to stick around and see what they would do next. I also thought the feedback the judges gave was tremendously helpful and much more insightful into industry decision making than Face/Off. I would like to see a longer season (more contestants) next time around
