Ugh. I was just hit by a tremendous wave of Hype for G-Fest.

I don't know how I'll ever recover. Although I will say that the wait for this year's con hasn't seemed as long what with all of the G2014 stuff coming up.
Now I hear that the Akira Ifukube concert will take the place of one of the film showings, is this correct?
In fact, does anyone have any specific info on where it's held (I know it's for G-Fest, but is it at the hotel or where?)

Geez, I answered most of that on the last page ;) And I quote:

Well, it looks like I don't have to be jealous anymore, as my friend John DeSentis asked if I would be interested in conducting part of the concert. Who am I to say no?

The concert is a real labor of love on the part of John DeSentis and Chris Oglio, and the amount of work they are putting in on this is tremendous. I am happy to be helping out, and honored to be a part of it.

Right now the plan is to have the concert be the main Saturday evening event with a late night movie directly after. Hopefully the concert goes well and everyone will be extra pumped for the movie when it is over :)

While I didn't specifically lay out the location, the plan is to hold it in the Pickwick itself.

I am so ready for G-Fest. I just got back from the Motor City Comic Con in Novi this weekend and boy was it lacking in Godzilla. They had fair amount of stuff that could easily be found in a Toys R Us (although at inflated prices, Jakks figures fro $100+). But little to no MonsterArts, and even then they were over priced as well. I'm not paying $100 for Moguera, when I can get it for under $80 on Amazon. Dude seemed honestly surprised that Amazon had it at such a low price. I'm lucky I was able to walk out of there with the only copy of Rulers of Earth Vol 1 I found. I was expecting pint glasses, shirts, lanyards, belts. You know, the stuff on . But I'm pretty sure I could find more Godzilla 2014 stuff at my mall with Spencer's and Hot Topic than I did at that convention.

I've never watched either of his films but I've heard terrible things.

That was unexpected. Did these films get a US domestic release?

I don't think I've even heard high praise for Gamera 4 really. Mostly it seems that people are just interested in it because it builds on the Heisei trilogy.

I really want to track down these two awful movies and see just how awful they are.
Maybe marathon them with Death Kappa. lolz.

G-Fest Film line up.
Thursday
1pm - King Kong (1976)
3:30pm - King Kong Lives (1986)
7pm - Gamera vs Barugon (1966)
9pm - Yongary, Monster from the Deep (1967)

Friday
10:30pm - Godzilla vs Biollante (1989)

Saturday
11:00pm (after concert) Godzilla vs King Ghidorah (1991)

Wow...Thursday's first double feature is an easy skip for me. May still go to the 2nd one.
I thought there would be more Godzilla for Godzilla's 60th anniversary, but whatever.

Really disappointing list. Instead of actually showing King Kong Lives, they should just play static for 2 hours.
No one is going to be there.

The issue is Toho, who wants large amounts of money to play the films under their control plus wants them shown from actual film prints (in other words, no DVDs or Blurays). This has just priced those films out of realm of affordability.

There is also the fact that Toho does not want to license these types of "one off" showings. They want a full blown theatrical run.

Kong films....yawn. I wouldn't mind catching Yongary...and Godzilla vs Biollante on Saturday will probably be neat. In fairness, the movies are low on my priority list anyways. I'm old. I've seen them all many times. :)

So who wants to organize the unofficial "Official G-Fest Viewing of Godzilla 2014"? Just take over one showing of the movie, filled to the brim with fans. That'd sure beat the Kong double feature.

Are they showing 35mm prints of KING KONG '76 and KING KONG LIVES? If so, that is a rather rarefied opportunity.

KING KONG '76 is actually a very entertaining and accomplished film. I am shocked by the lack of support for this film from this particular community.

General audience's biggest complaint about the film upon its release was that it ultimately relied upon suitmation! We love suitmation here at Monster Zero! So why no love for this epic?

The film is beautifully shot, features a gorgeous, moving, and thrilling John Barry score, and helped to solidify and launch the careers of Jeff Bridges and Jessica Lange.

And then there is the hilarity and GENIUS of GRODIN...
God is in the details.
